This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible was acquired by the seller in March 2022 and subsequently refurbished and modified with a repaint in metallic gray as well as the installation of a 496ci V8, a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and a 12-bolt rear end with a Positraction differential. Additional equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, 18″ and 20″ Ridler wheels, power steering, Wilwood brake calipers, Classic Performance Products tubular control arms, and QA1 adjustable coilovers as well as a Hurst shifter, Classic Auto Air climate control, a Custom Autosound digital stereo, a Lunati camshaft, JE pistons, MSD electronic ignition, FiTech electronic fuel injection, a Holley fuel pump, a Centerforce clutch, Hooker headers, and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system. This Chevelle convertible is now offered with a reproduction Fisher body plate, refurbishment records, and a transferable New York registration document in the seller’s name.
The seller states that the body was refinished in metallic gray during the aforementioned refurbishment, and the chassis was powder-coated at the same time. Exterior features include a replacement power-operated black soft top, a red vinyl top boot, a front spoiler, a left-side mirror, and chrome bumpers.
Gray-finished Ridler alloy wheels with polished lips measure 18″ in diameter up front and 20″ out back and wear 255/45 and 295/35 Nitto NT555 G2 tires, respectively. The car is equipped with power steering, Classic Performance Products tubular control arms, adjustable QA1 coilovers, a Hotchkis Sport Suspension front sway bar and adjustable trailing arm mount braces, Energy Suspension Parts body mount bushings, and Edelbrock heavy-duty tie rod sleeves. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs featuring Wilwood calipers, slotted and cross-drilled rotors, and braided stainless-steel lines.
The power-adjustable front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in red vinyl and accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes Classic Auto Air climate control, a center console, a Hurst shifter, a Custom Autosound digital stereo, a Polk Audio amplifier, aftermarket speakers, power windows and door locks, and Chevelle-branded rubber floor mats.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an SS-branded center cap and fronts a 120-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer surrounded by auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 2,900 miles, though total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 454ci V8 is said to have been overbored for an increased displacement of 496ci, and assembled with a Lunati camshaft, JE forged pistons, and Eagle connecting rods. Additional equipment includes MSD electronic ignition, FiTech electronic fuel injection, an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley fuel pump, Summit Racing electric fans, polished valve covers, and Hooker coated exhaust headers.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission in addition to a QuickTime bellhousing and a welded and pinned 12-bolt rear end with a Positraction differential, a Richmond Gear 3.90:1 ring and pinion set, and carbon-fiber clutches. The car is equipped with a Centerforce clutch, a McLeod Racing hydraulic throwout bearing, an LPW Racing Products axle-housing brace, and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system featuring remote-controlled cutouts.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its New York registration.
