This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 coupe was acquired out of Connecticut by the seller in 2006 and later underwent a multi-year refurbishment and modification process completed in 2019 that involved installation of a Merlin 572ci V8 linked to a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission and a Moser Engineering 4.10:1 rear differential. The car’s body was removed from the frame and repaired before it was refinished in black with a purple flame motif and the cabin was reupholstered in black leather. Other equipment includes a 950-cfm Holley Dominator carburetor, Lemons Headers, 15″ E-T Wheels, front disc brakes, coilover suspension, power steering, a cowl-induction hood, custom front and rear seats, a modified center console, a Hurst shifter, and a Kenwood head unit. Service in December 2022 consisted of replacing the carburetor, fuel fittings, power-steering pump, and spark plugs. This modified Chevelle SS is now offered with records from current ownership, refurbishment photos, and a Maryland title in the seller’s name.
The seller states that the body was removed from the frame and fitted with reproduction quarter panels, door skins, grille, glass, General Motors–sourced front fenders, and an aftermarket cowl-induction hood. A repaint in black with a purple flame motif was carried out in 2019. Additional equipment includes chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, SS 396 badges, and dual exhaust outlets.
Aftermarket 15″ Torq Thrust–style E-T wheels are wrapped in 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic front tires and 275/60 Nitto NT555RII rear tires. A coilover suspension system with adjustable rears has been installed along with a front sway bar. Braking is handled by SSBC Force 10 front calipers over slotted rotors paired with red-finished rear drums.
The cabin was stripped and fitted with Dynamat sound-deadening material over replacement black carpeting. A custom center console was fabricated along with custom door panels, rear bench seat, and front bucket seats before being wrapped in black leather. Additional equipment includes a Hurst shifter, a glovebox, a heater, and a Kenwood Excelon head unit paired with a trunk-mounted amplifier.
An aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel fronts Classic Instruments gauges that consist of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a coolant-temperature gauge, and a trio of instruments mounted under the dashboard measuring oil temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 1,200 miles, and true chassis mileage is unknown.
The Merlin 572ci V8 is fitted with World Products cylinder heads and a Holley Dominator 950-cfm carburetor. Tubular Lemons Headers feed a custom 3″ exhaust system with a center X-pipe, and other equipment includes a serpentine-belt system, a Be Cool aluminum radiator, electric fans, and a K&N air filter. Service in December 2022 consisted of replacing the carburetor, fuel fittings, power-steering pump, and spark plugs.
A Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission with a Centerforce clutch routes power to the rear wheels via a Moser Engineering differential with 4.10:1 gearing. The seller states that the frame has been powdercoated in black and the underside has been refinished in a matching bedliner-style material. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.

The title bears the odometer brand “Exceeds Mechanical Limits”.
