This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 convertible was built in Fremont, California, and reportedly sold new in Oregon, where it is reported to have remained for decades. The car was refurbished between 2012 and 2014 according to the selling dealer, who states that the body was refinished in Marina Blue, the interior was re-trimmed in blue vinyl, and the 396ci V8 was rebuilt. Flowmaster mufflers are fitted, and equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, 15″ Rally wheels, power steering, and power-assisted front disc brakes in addition to a center console, air conditioning, a tilting wood steering wheel, and power windows. This Chevelle SS396 is now offered on dealer consignment with spare and removed parts as well as a clean Oregon title.
The car was repainted in Marina Blue during the refurbishment completed in 2014, and equipment includes a remote-adjustable left-side mirror, faux hood vents, SS badging, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The power-operated white soft top has a zippered glass rear window, and dimples and wear are pictured in the gallery below.
Gray-finished 15″ Rally wheels wear chrome center caps and trim rings, and they are wrapped in 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. Power steering was specified from the factory, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in blue vinyl and accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. The interior was re-trimmed during the refurbishment, and appointments include a center console, air conditioning, a Delco AM/FM radio, and power windows. The selling dealer states that removed cruise-control components will accompany the car.
The tilting two-spoke factory steering wheel fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer flanked by combination gauges for fuel level, battery status, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. A tachometer is mounted to the steering column, and an analog clock is housed at the front of the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment completed in 2014. It features a four-barrel carburetor as well as a chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer states the clutch and rear axle bearings were replaced during the refurbishment. The dual exhaust system utilizes Flowmaster mufflers.
