This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is finished in Tuxedo Black over a black vinyl interior and powered by a replacement 396ci L78 V8 paired with a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes bucket seats, a center console with a clock, redline tires, a “knee knocker” tachometer, and more. The car was sold new in Ohio according to the seller, who acquired it a year ago and has since driven it approximately 500 miles. Oil and differential fluid changes were carried out in October 2019 as well as replacement of the belts, spark plugs, and ignition wires. This Chevelle SS is offered with a clean Mississippi title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Tuxedo Black (AA), and the seller notes a generally worn finish with areas of weathering. Exterior features include dual exhaust outlets as well as “396 Turbo-Jet” fender badges and “Super Sport” scripts on the quarter panels.
Black-painted 14″ steel wheels wear Chevrolet-branded hubcaps and are mounted with Michelin redline tires all around. The seller notes the presence of factory-style rivets in the grille.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl complemented by matching carpets, door panels, and dash trim. Factory equipment consists of front bucket seats split by a center console with a clock, a 7k-rpm “knee knocker” tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, a heater, and a defroster.
A wood-look steering wheel frames instrumentation including a horizontal-sweep speedometer and a five-digit odometer that reads 89k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added by the seller over the last year.
The replacement 396ci L78 V8 features a four-barrel carburetor and routes power through a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission. Maintenance conducted in fall 2019 reportedly included changing the engine oil, belts, spark plugs, and ignition wires.
The differential was also serviced in fall 2019 according to the seller, who also notes the presence of factory-style rivets in the front ball joints. Additional underbody photographs are viewable in the gallery below.
