This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was purchased new by the seller’s father at Martin Chevrolet of Warren, Ohio on July 27, 1971, and was acquired by the seller in June 1986. Subsequent work consisted of repainting the body, rebuilding the engine, updating the front brakes, and replacing hoses, belts, and electrical components. The car is finished in gold over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 307ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Other equipment includes a black vinyl roof covering, power steering, power front disc brakes, five-spoke 15″ Cragar wheels, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, an HEI-style distributor, tubular exhaust headers, Cherry Bomb mufflers, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. Now showing 73k miles, this Chevelle is offered with a build sheet, a Protect-O-Plate, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Placer Gold (53), the car is said to have been repainted under current ownership. Features include a black vinyl roof covering, chrome bumpers, wheel-arch moldings, rocker-panel trim, a driver-side mirror, and round taillights. The quarter panels have bubbling paint near the wheel openings, particularly at the left rear, and the paint is chipped along the front of the right door and at the rear of the left door.
Five-spoke 15″ Cragar wheels wear 225/70 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T white-letter tires. A full-size spare is stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The power brake booster, wheels, and front disc brakes are said to have been installed under current ownership.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in black vinyl upholstery complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Equipment includes lap belts, aftermarket rear speakers, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a leather wrap and frames a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. A trio of auxiliary gauges is positioned below the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, approximately 33k of which have been added by the seller.
The 307ci V8 is said to have been rebuilt in the 1990s and was reportedly fitted with a high-performance camshaft. Additional features include an aluminum intake manifold, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, an HEI-style distributor, tubular exhaust headers, and a chrome air-cleaner assembly and valve covers. Recent work is said to have consisted of an oil change and replacement of the coolant hoses, belts, and electrical components. The seller notes that the carburetor should be adjusted and that the car hesitates when going up hills if the fuel level is low.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. A dual exhaust system with Cherry Bomb mufflers was installed in preparation for the sale.
