This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is powered by a 355ci V8 that was rebuilt by the seller 30k miles ago and is equipped with a Borg Warner T-5 5 speed manual transmission. Originally equipped with an inline-six and an 3-speed manual, the seller has owned the car for seven years and modified it for regular use and autocross events. The V8 was built with .030 over pistons, Z-28 valve springs, a hydraulic flat-tappet COMP XE268 grind valve train, an Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake, a Holley 600 CFM carburetorm, a Melling oil pump, Pertronix magnetic pickup distributor, an MSD street-fire ignition box, and more. The seller recently drove it on the 3900 mile 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour, and will provide the receipts for all major components and a dyno sheet. This Malibu is sold with a clean New Mexico title in the seller’s name.

The seller states that the finish has a few scrapes and several chips with surface rust. The passenger door has a large scratch and rust can be seen on the front quarter panel. The driver’s rear fender has a rust blemish forming and the trunk floor has pin holes.

The 18″ x 8″ Rambler series US Mags wear BF Goodrich Sport Comp 2 tires. The front brakes are Classic Performance Products C5 Corvette with 13″ drilled and slotted rotors. The rear brakes are standard GM 11″ rotors from Right-Stuff Detailing and tuned for autocross use. A manual Wilwood Tandem master cylinder provides braking power.

The interior features Summit Racing sport seats with three point seat belts, a wood grained steering wheel, accessory gauges, a tachometer, newer carpets, and renewed door panels. Sound deadening mats have been added to the inner doors and floors for comfort and a carpeted dash pad is covering the dashboard which the seller mentions will require a new pad. The transmission tunnel has also been cut several times while experimenting with various transmission options. The seller notes that the speedometer and odometer do not work and that many of the plastic controls are faded and scratched. An estimated 50k miles have been added by the seller over the course of their ownership, with true mileage unknown.

The 350ci Chevrolet V8 was rebuilt by the seller with .030 over pistons giving a displacement of 355ci. It produces 285HP at the crank and 240HP at the wheels. The cylinder heads are standard GM, but have 2.02/1.60 valves with Z-28 valve springs and roller rockers. The camshaft is a hydraulic flat-tappet COMP XE268 grind (224/230 degrees duration and 477/480 lift)  A Holley 600 CFM carburetor with an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold complete the package. With 8.5:1 compression, the seller notes that it runs well on 86/87 octane and ethanol blended fuels. Other features include a Center Force dual friction clutch, Melling oil pump, Pertronix distributor, with an MSD street-fire ignition box, and COMP cams valve covers. The engine has 30k miles since the rebuild and the seller mentions that the oil was last changed on 9/1/17.

The suspension has been rebuilt with all new bushings, BMR springs in the front, and Eibach springs in the rear. A Hotchkiss 1-3/8″ tubular sway bar is mounted to the front while a solid 1″ Original Parts Group swaybar handles the rear. Steering is manual, and the steering box has been converted to a fast ratio unit. The lower control arms in the rear are boxed for strength, and the uppers are adjustable QA1 items. Chassis strengthening QA1 triangulating arms have been added to tie the rear suspension together.

Full length Headman headers lead to a 2.5 inch exhaust that exits just ahead of the rear axle. An H pipe leads to a pair of stainless mufflers, and a manual cutout can be used to bypass the mufflers to add more power. The rear end has been converted to a 3.55:1 ratio for performance but the seller reports that coupled with the 5-speed transmission it will drive at 70 mph at 2000 rpm.
