This 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Super Sport convertible was acquired by the seller in 1987 and subsequently refurbished over a multi-year period. The car is finished in red over white vinyl and powered by a replacement 327ci V8 paired with a two-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a white soft top, Malibu SS badging, power steering, and power front disc brakes. Recent service has reportedly included refreshing the interior, installing an electronic ignition, re-chroming the bumpers, and more as detailed below. This first-generation Malibu SS is now offered with manufacturer’s literature and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The refurbishment reportedly included disassembling the body and media blasting the panels. The car was then repainted in red, and the seller states that additional work included re-chroming the bumpers, refurbishing the trim and brightwork, and replacing the grille and taillight lenses. Exterior features include a white power-retractable soft top, quad headlamps, and Malibu SS badging on the rear fenders.
Steel 15″ wheels feature SS-badged covers and wear Hankook Optimo whitewall tires. Work during the multi-year refurbishment reportedly included rebuilding suspension components, installing power front disc brakes, replacing the wheels, and performing an alignment. The seller notes the replacement wheels have a 1″ outside offset.
The interior was reupholstered in white vinyl and also features replacement black carpets. Amenities include bucket seats, a full-length center console, power-assisted steering, and a push-button AM radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 4,800-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 1,500 miles, which is said to represent the distance covered since the completion of the build. True mileage is unknown.
The 327ci V8 GM crate engine was reportedly installed by the previous owner and is said to include performance modifications. Work carried out during current ownership is said to have included installing a Summit 650 CFM carburetor, an electronic ignition, and a chrome open-element air cleaner.
