This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was acquired by the seller in 2003 as a non-running project. Subsequent work included installing a replacement 454ci V8, an ATI TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, and replacement interior components. This black-over-black example features 15″ Centerline wheels, a JEGS line-lock system, an electric radiator fan, a transmission cooler, electronic ignition, a Flowmaster dual exhaust system, and tubular headers as well as an SS 396 grille, tail panel, and badging. This Chevelle SS is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with spare parts and a clean Virginia title.
The body is said to have been repainted in black in 2003. Features include polished wheel arch moldings, chrome bumpers, SS 396 badging on the grille and tail panel, quadruple headlights, reverse lights, dual side mirrors, and a dual-outlet exhaust system that exits below the rear bumper. The windshield wiper motor is said to have been replaced in 2022.
Polished 15″ Centerline Convo Pro wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 215/50 up front and 275/60 out back. The car is fitted with a JEGS line-lock system and braking is handled by unassisted drums at all four corners.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl joined by a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Equipment includes an aftermarket console-mounted shifter, polished door sills, Chevelle-branded floor mats, and lap belts. The radio is missing and the heater and fan are disconnected.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and a multifunction gauge. An AutoMeter tachometer with a shift light is mounted on top of the dashboard and oil pressure and water temperature gauges are mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, approximately 5k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 454ci V8 was reportedly installed during current ownership and features a four-barrel carburetor, an electric radiator fan, tubular headers, Accel ignition wires, and a polished alternator and air cleaner lid.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an ATI TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.30:1 gearing. A Flowmaster dual exhaust system is installed.
A spare four-speed manual transmission, Muncie shifter, center console, trim piece, valve covers, driveshaft, clutch, and converter are included in the sale.
