This 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS was purchased by the seller in 2016 and has since undergone a custom build featuring the installation of a 327ci V8 equipped with three Holley carburetors, a four-speed manual transmission, and a 12-bolt Positraction differential. Additional modifications include exterior and interior color changes, updated suspension components, a four-wheel disc-brake conversion, 17″ wheels, MagnaFlow exhaust, and more. The refurbishment was performed by Denny’s Bowtie Restorations, which is the seller’s shop, and less than 20 miles have been added since the project’s completion in 2020. This SS coupe is now offered with photos and records from the build process as well as a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Ember Red (922), the car was stripped to bare metal, body filler was applied for leveling, and primer was blocked-sanded prior to the refinish. The final repaint was performed with PPG Cortez Silver base coat followed by four coats of House of Kolor clearcoat. Factory glass was replaced with gray-tinted panes. Stainless-steel moldings, seals, and door hardware also were installed along with a billet grille, according to the seller.
Staggered-width 17″ American Racing Rally-style wheels are accented with polished lips and chrome hubcaps. They are fitted with Toyo Extensa tires measuring 215/50 at the front and 235/45 at the rear. Disc brakes have been installed at all four wheels, and suspension updates include Heidts lowering spindles, QA1 coilover shocks, rebuilt stock control arms, and adjustable torsion links.
The interior features a black and silver scheme in place of the factory ivory vinyl (729). Dynamat insulation is fitted under black carpeting, and the car is equipped with a Custom Autosound head unit featuring Bluetooth connectivity and linked to six speakers.
Replacement Dakota Digital gauges are recessed within the stock openings. The digital odometer shows 13 miles; actual mileage is unknown.
The car came from the factory with an eight-cylinder engine, and the seller installed a fresh 327ci V8, which features three Holley two-barrel carburetors, a Comp Cams camshaft, a custom front-runner drive system, and a 2½” exhaust system equipped with a pair of MagnaFlow mufflers. Cooling is from an aluminum radiator matched with dual electric fans, and other additions include Pertronix electronic ignition as well as a 23-circuit wiring harness from Painless Performance Products. An engine startup is viewable in this video.
A replacement four-speed M22 Muncie manual transmission sends power through a GM 12-bolt Positraction rear end featuring 3.53:1 gearing.
Additional photos in the gallery document the refurbishment process. Narrated videos featuring this Malibu are presented below, and an additional video shows the exhaust system and the engine being revved.
