This 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS sport coupe was built at the Fremont, California plant and was sold new by Ostrom Chevrolet of Montebello, California in December 1964. Refinished in purple over a black interior, the car is powered by a 283ci V8 paired with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Other equipment includes 14″ steel wheels with covers, power-assisted brakes, rear coilovers, front bucket seats, power steering, air conditioning, and a Delco push-button radio. Work in April 2021 included servicing the brakes, changing the engine oil, and replacing the transmission vacuum modulator, the battery and cables, and the starter solenoid. This Chevelle Malibu SS is offered in Oregon by the selling dealer with manufacturer’s literature, a Protect-O-Plate, a 1977-dated California registration card, recent service records, and a Montana title.
Originally ordered in Evening Orchid (PP), the car is said to have been refinished during previous ownership and features a dual exhaust system, “Malibu SS” and “283” badging, a driver-side mirror, bright-finished trim, and chrome bumpers. Flaws include paint chips and cracking along with bubbling around the rear window and on the hood. Additional close-up images depicting these areas are available in the gallery below.
Black-finished 14″ steel wheels wear multi-color covers with simulated knock-offs and are mounted with 205/75 Fisk Custom A/S whitewall tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel drums, and during an April 2021 service the brake fluid was flushed and the master cylinder replaced, as were the front and rear wheel cylinders, shoes, and wheel bearings. The rear suspension has been modified with coilovers and Monroe dampers.
The cabin is equipped with front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning, a center console, bright-finished trim, lap belts, and a Delco push-button AM radio.
A black two-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and secondary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 75k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
The DE-code 283ci V8 is finished in orange and sends power to the rear wheels through a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. An April 2021 service included an oil change and replacing the transmission vacuum modulator, the battery, battery cables, and starter solenoid. An invoice detailing the work is pictured in the gallery.
