This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe was acquired by the seller as a rolling shell in 2021 and was refurbished and modified over the last two years. A 408ci V8 was installed along with a rebuilt TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with a Positraction differential. An SS-style hood was added and the bumpers were tucked before the car was refinished in dark cherry metallic, and the interior was re-trimmed in black. Additional equipment includes a Holley 750-cfm carburetor, a Howards roller camshaft, 9:1 compression ratio pistons, Brodix aluminum cylinder heads, a Flowmaster dual exhaust system, Ridler 18” wheels, front disc brakes, and a push-button AM/FM radio. This Chevelle is now offered with a build sheet and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

The body was removed from the frame and mounted to a rotisserie during the aforementioned refurbishment, and the quarter panels, trunk floor, and wheel wells were replaced, the rocker panels and doors were repaired, marker light openings were filled, and the bumpers were smoothed and tucked before the car was repainted in dark cherry metallic with black stripes. Replacement weatherstripping and tinted glass were also installed. Additional details include an SS-style hood, a front spoiler, and chrome side mirrors.

Chrome-finished Ridler 18” wheels are mounted with 245/45 front and 275/40 rear Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate tires. The suspension has been lowered and is equipped with Global West tubular control arms and anti-bump steer knuckle arms as well as MOOG bushings and a UMI 1.25” front sway bar and coil springs. The idler arm, tie rod ends, and shocks were also replaced. Stopping power is provided by a Wilwood brake master cylinder and front disc brakes with 11” cross-drilled and slotted rotors. The rear wheel cylinders and shoes were also replaced during the build along with the lines and parking brake cables.

The cabin has been re-trimmed in black, and the headliner, front seat foam, and door cards were replaced. The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket cover, bright metal trim adorns the center console, and a push-button AM/FM radio remains in the factory location. The seller notes that the replacement carpets were cut and sewn to fit the center console.

Aftermarket instrumentation consists of a 140-mph GPS speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer indicates 18 miles, which is said to represent the distance added since completion of the build. Total mileage is unknown.

The seller states that a replacement V8 engine block was bored over to an estimated displacement of 408ci and assembled with the following components:

  • Flat-top 9:1 compression ratio pistons
  • Howards roller camshaft, lifters, and roller rocker arms
  • Brodix aluminum cylinder heads
  • Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold
  • Holley Brawler 750-cfm carburetor
  • HEI distributor
  • 454-branded valve covers

Patriot tubular headers flow into a Flowmaster dual exhaust system with a crossover pipe, and a stainless-steel fuel tank was installed along with a 100-amp alternator and a Cold Case aluminum radiator with dual electric puller fans.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, a 2,800-rpm stall torque converter, and a 12-bolt rear end with a Positraction differential and 3.55:1 gearing. The axle shafts, bearings, and seals were also replaced during the build, and undercoating material was applied to the underbody.
