This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was sold new from Ray Bryant Chevrolet of Dayton, Ohio in June 1968, and it was purchased by the seller in summer 2016 and subsequently refurbished. The car has been refinished in Corvette Bronze over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, and power is provided by a numbers-matching overbored 302ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes Rally Sport exterior trim, a center console with auxiliary gauges, a Tic Toc Tach, a simulated wood steering wheel, a modified Delco stereo, and Rally wheels. This Z/28 RS is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, dealership warranty paperwork from 1968, Protect-O-Plate documentation from original ownership, keys and knockouts, refurbishment records and photos, and a bonded Texas title in the seller’s name.
The body was refinished in its factory Corvette Bronze (O) with Z/28 black striping during a body-off rotisserie refurbishment performed under current ownership by Renown Auto Restoration of San Antonio, Texas. The doorsill panels, trunk floor, floor pans, and driver-side door were replaced prior to the repaint. The Rally Sport package includes an RS grille with vacuum-operated headlight doors, bright rocker panels and wheel-well moldings, backup lamps below the rear bumper, and RS badging. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers, front and rear spoilers, and downward-facing dual exhaust exits.
Rally 15″ wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings and are wrapped in E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires.
The dual front bucket seats and rear bench were reupholstered in black vinyl (712) with a matching dashboard, door panels, headliner, and carpeting. Interior materials were sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors of Newark, New York. The console and center stack feature woodgrain trim, and additional amenities include lap belts all around, a Delco AM radio that has been modified for AM/FM stereo capability, an added rear speaker, and a chrome Muncie shift lever.
A simulated-woodgrain steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, an optional Tic Toc Tach 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges mounted in the center console. The five-digit odometer displays 30k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The 302ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and produced 290 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque when new. During the refurbishment, the heads were reconditioned with replacement valves and exhaust seats by Hill Country Performance & Machine of Spring Branch, Texas. The engine was reportedly bored .030″ over during prior ownership.
The engine stamping includes the sequence 8N451380, which matches the vehicle’s serial number. The MO suffix indicates a 302ci engine used in 1968 Z/28 applications. A photo displaying transmission stamping 8N451390 is included in the gallery.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a refurbished M21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. The frame was refurbished by the seller, and additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery below.
Included paperwork and documentation consists of an owner’s manual, warranty and Protect-O-Plate from original ownership, and service records and receipts from the refurbishment.
