This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu coupe reportedly underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment completed in 2002 and was acquired by the current owner that same year. The car is finished in red over a black vinyl interior and powered by a replacement 396ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering and air conditioning. The engine was rebuilt with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock manifold, TRW forged pistons, an MSD electronic ignition, and more as detailed below. Other modifications include the installation of a transmission shift kit and a front disc-brake conversion. This Chevelle is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with the owner’s service records, service and parts manuals, and a Washington title in the owner’s name.
The body was repainted in red during the 2002 refurbishment, and exterior features include chrome lower body-side moldings, chrome bumpers, and SS396 badging on the front fenders, tail panel, and grille. The bumpers, grille, and badges are said to have been fitted new in 2002, along with new weatherstripping.
Rallye 15″ wheels are painted silver and fitted with chrome center caps, polished trim rings, and Remington XT-120 CTR tires. A disc-brake conversion kit has been installed up front.
The interior is upholstered in black vinyl with a matching dash pad and carpets. Features include a console-mounted horseshoe shifter, a Sony CD head unit, and air conditioning that was refreshed with new belts and hoses during the refurbishment.
The 396ci V8 is believed to be of 1966 vintage and was rebuilt with components that included the following:
- 650cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor
- Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold
- Rhoads hydraulic lifters
- TRW 10:1 forged pistons
- Isky 280 Mega Racing Camshaft
- Balanced and blueprinted steel crankshaft
- MSD Digital 6AL ignition control box, Pro-Billet distributor, and Blaster 2 coil
Cast-iron manifolds flow into a dual exhaust system installed during the 2002 refurbishment, and power travels to the rear wheels through a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission fitted with a shift kit. The 12-bolt rear axle is equipped with a limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery.
The Fisher body tag indicates that this two-door Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was built at the Fremont, California plant in the fourth week of November and was originally finished in Frost Lime (59) over a Metallic Medium Green vinyl interior (784).
