This 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible was first delivered to Ben Lupe Chevrolet of Avon Lake, Ohio, and reportedly underwent refurbishment work around 2000 before being purchased by the current owner in 2011. The car is powered by a rebuilt 396ci V8 mated to a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission, and it is finished in maroon over black upholstery. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, 15″ Rally-style wheels, and chrome bumpers with overriders as well as power-assisted brakes and steering, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, air conditioning, electric windows, aftermarket auxiliary gauges, and a Delco push-button radio. An oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale. This Impala SS convertible is now offered on behalf of the owner with a black top boot, removed parts, Protect-O-Plate, manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photos, and a transferrable New York registration document in the current owner’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in Madeira Maroon (N), and was disassembled and repainted in approximately 2000 under prior ownership. Exterior details include a power-operated black soft top and matching top boot, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual side mirrors, vent windows, bright trim, “396” and “Super Sport” badging, and dual exhaust outlets. The convertible top is said to have been replaced along with the power top pump. Paint chipping is noted on the front valance, and additional close-up images showing badging, lighting, and trim are provided in the gallery below.
Silver-finished 15″ Rally-style steel wheels wear bright trim rings and hubcaps and are mounted with 205/75 Prime Well PS850 tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted drums on all four corners.
The interior is equipped with front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black upholstery with patterned inserts along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include air conditioning, power steering, electric windows, an analog clock, lap belts, “Impala SS” dash badging, black rubber floor mats, and a Delco push-button radio that is said to have been refurbished.
The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilt and telescoping column and fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel-level gauge, and Auto Gage auxiliary gauges mounted to the lower dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, approximately 6,500 of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.
The 396ci V8 was overhauled in 2016 and features a Holley intake manifold and four-barrel carburetor as well as a roller camshaft. An oil change was carried out in March 2023, and seepage is noted from the oil pan.
A portion of the stampings on the engine block are shown above.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with a 3.07:1 gear set.
