This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe was refurbished before it was acquired by the seller in June 2017, with work consisting of installing a replacement 396ci V8 and a 4.11:1 rear gear along with repainting the body in black. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and trim, 15″ rally wheels, power-assisted brakes, red vinyl upholstery, a Hurst shifter, a push-button radio, and a lockable glovebox. Work performed in 2018 involved replacing the upper and lower ball joints and tires while an oil change was performed in June 2023. This Chevelle is now offered with an Ohio title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Regal Red, the car was refinished in its current shade of black as part of the refurbishment completed under previous ownership. Exterior details include quadruple headlamps, Malibu SS badging, and chrome trim on the bumpers, wheel arches, door edges, and side mirrors. There is rust behind the left-rear wheel arch.
The 15″ Rally wheels wear hubcaps and dented trim rings along with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires with 2018 production date codes. A spare is stowed in the trunk, and the car is equipped with power-assisted brakes. The front upper and lower ball joints and front brake lines were replaced in May 2018. The seller notes that the steering box requires adjustment or replacement.
The front bucket and rear bench seats are trimmed in red vinyl and joined by color-coordinated carpeting and door panels and a contrasting dash pad. Bright trim lines the dashboard, instrument surround, center console, and door panels, and additional interior details consist of a console-mounted Hurst shifter and a push-button radio. The headliner sail panels are sagging, and the seller recommends replacing the headliner.
The two-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and a Chevrolet-logo center emblem. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 396ci V8 was reportedly bored 0.030″ over and features a revised camshaft, an orange-painted block and cylinder heads, and finned valve covers. The dual exhaust system is equipped with glasspack mufflers. The carburetor fuel supply hose was replaced in May 2018, and an oil change was performed in June 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a 4.11:1 differential, per the seller. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.
