This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle is an SS convertible that is powered by a 396ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and it is finished in red over red. The seller acquired the car out of California in 2017 and has since had the body refinished, the engine rebuilt, and tubular control arms installed along with front coilovers, four-wheel disc brakes, and polished 17″ aftermarket wheels. Other features include a white soft top, a red boot cover, a push-button radio, a Spectre Performance air cleaner, and an Edelbrock intake manifold. This Chevelle SS 396 is now offered with records from current ownership, refurbishment photos, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been refinished in red with PPG materials during 2020. Features include a white soft top, a red boot cover, and chrome-finished bumpers and trim as well as 396, Turbo-Jet, and Super Sport emblems.
Polished 17″ Rev Wheels 10-spoke wheels are mounted with Riken Raptor tires. Equipment includes power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes as well as front coilovers and tubular control arms.
The interior features a split-folding front bench seat and rear bench trimmed in red, with color-coordinated carpeting and trim. An aftermarket stereo has been installed along with kick-panel speakers.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a clock as well as an aftermarket gauge pod positioned under the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 1,500 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The big-block 396ci V8 is finished in orange and is equipped with a polished Edelbrock intake manifold, a Spectre Performance air cleaner, a polished water pump, a chrome alternator, aftermarket pulleys, and a dual exhaust system. The engine is said to have been rebuilt before the seller drove the car.
The engine stamping is pictured above, and other stampings and castings are shown in the gallery below.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Additional images of the underside are presented below.
Photos toward the end of the gallery show the car during its refurbishment.
The California title indicates “Title Only.”
