This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was acquired approximately 15 years ago by the seller and has since received a body-off refurbishment. Finished in red over matching vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 406ci V8 fitted with an Edelbrock carburetor and paired with a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include a push-button AM/FM radio, a center console, dual exhaust outlets, and 15” Rallye-style wheels. This Chevelle is being offered by the seller with a clean South Carolina title.
The body was removed from the frame and received a two-stage repaint in red with black rocker panels during the refurbishment under current ownership. The seller notes that the floors and quarter panels were repaired or replaced at that time, and equipment includes an antenna, 396 badging, chrome side-view mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. Close-up photos of the paintwork can be seen in the gallery below.
The 15” silver-painted Rallye-style wheels feature chrome trim rings and hubcaps and are wrapped in white-letter BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires sized 235/70. Braking is through front discs with rear drums, and a full-size spare is found in the trunk.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in red vinyl, along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets lined with black Chevelle-branded mats. Amenities include a center console and a push-button AM/FM radio.
A three-spoke steering wheel with polished accents and an SS-branded center cap frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer was reset during the refurbishment and now shows just over 200 miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The V8 was reportedly bored to 406ci and fitted with an upgraded camshaft, an Edelbrock carburetor, a Holley intake manifold, and a 3” exhaust system during current ownership.
Engine block stamping number T0402JO is shown above, which corresponds to a 265-horsepower 396ci police interceptor-spec V8 produced at GM’s Tonawanda, New York engine plant.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below, along with a handful of images taken during the refurbishment.
