This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS coupe was ordered new from Bass Chevrolet of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and the selling dealer acquired the car in July 2021 following refurbishment work that is said to have occurred approximately ten years ago. The car has been refinished in metallic blue with white stripes over a black interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 396ci V8 paired with a replacement Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a 4.10:1 Positraction rear axle. Other equipment includes 14″ steel wheels with hubcaps, power-assisted front disc brakes, an aftermarket camshaft, Hooker tubular headers, a dual exhaust system, a Lakewood scatter shield, a Sun tachometer and auxiliary gauges, a Hurst shifter, and a push-button radio. Work performed in preparation for the sale reportedly included flushing the coolant, changing the oil, and replacing the thermostat and the spark-plug wires. This Camaro SS is offered by the selling dealer with a 1968-dated dealer vehicle order form, a Protect-O-Plate, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Wisconsin title.
Originally ordered in Grotto Blue (DD), the car is said to have been refinished during refurbishment work that occurred under previous ownership between 2010 and 2012. Features include white accent stripes, simulated hood vents, chrome bumpers and rocker-panel trim, a driver-side mirror, “Camaro SS” and “396” badging, and dual exhaust outlets.
Body-color 14″ steel wheels wear bright-finished hubcaps and are mounted with F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval redline tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black with a matching dash pad, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include lap belts, black Chevrolet-branded rubber floor mats, a Hurst shifter, a glove compartment, and a push-button radio.
A three-spoke steering wheel fronts a black-painted dash that houses a 120-mph speedometer and other gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 25k miles, and true mileage is unknown. An aftermarket Sun tachometer and additional secondary gauges have been added.
The 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 was factory rated to make 375 horsepower when equipped with a four-barrel carburetor. Modifications include an aftermarket camshaft, Hooker tubular headers, an aftermarket dual exhaust system, and a Lakewood scatter shield. The selling dealer reportedly flushed the coolant, changed the oil, and replaced the thermostat and the spark-plug wires.
The engine-pad stamping includes the sequence 443526, which matches the last six digits of the vehicle’s serial number. The adjacent MQ suffix corresponds with a L78 396ci engine for manual-transmission applications. Additional photos of the BV-stamped axle and other component stampings are provided in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a 4.10:1 Positraction rear end. Additional images showing the condition of the underside are presented in the gallery.
