This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Sport Coupe was delivered new to Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland, Oregon finished in blue over black vinyl and equipped with the ZL3 SS 396 and F41 performance suspension packages. The car was reportedly kept in Washington State until being moved to Arizona on the previous owner’s purchase in March 2017. Refurbishment work was reportedly carried out circa 2005, while the 402ci V8 and three-speed automatic transmission were rebuilt in 2017 by Bill Olson of Chevelle Specialists in Phoenix, Arizona. This SS 396 is offered with a window sticker, broadcast sheets, and Protect-O-Plate as well as service records and a clean Arizona title.
This two-door pillarless coupe was finished in Fathom Blue (28) with a black roof cover from the factory, and is said to have been repainted with white rally stripes approximately 15 years ago. SS equipment included a cowl induction hood with hold-down pins, chrome wheel arch trim, and dual exhaust tips.

Painted 14″ Super Sport wheels wear chrome trim rings and 225/70 BFGoodrich Silvertown redline radial tires. The F41 performance suspension package equipped a thicker front sway bar, a rear sway bar, and boxed front control arms. The vacuum-assisted braking system comprises discs up front and drums in the rear, and was overhauled in 2017. The car also features power steering. A walk-around video can be viewed above with additional footage located here.
The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl over a split front bench seat with headrests as well as a matching dash and door panels installed by Bill Olson of Chevelle Specialists. Floor mats with SS logos protect black carpets. An electric clock and a push-button Delco radio were factory equipment.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a five-digit odometer showing 22k miles, 1k of which were added over three years by the previous owner. Total mileage is unknown.
The trunk features a vinyl cargo mat, reproduction decals on the lid, and a spare wheel wearing a Goodyear bias-ply tire.
The SS 396 was equipped with a 402ci L34 V8 for 1970, which featured a cowl induction setup feeding a four-barrel carburetor. Output was rated at 350 horsepower with 415 lb-ft of torque when new. Body plates, drivetrain stampings, and casting numbers are pictured in the gallery below, though the selling dealer notes that no engine serial numbers are visible on the stamping pad.
A three-speed automatic transmission routes power to a 3.30:1 Positraction differential. The engine and transmission were rebuilt by Chevelle Specialists in 2017. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Documents include broadcast sheets and warranty paperwork as well as handwritten lists of parts and printed service records to do with the 2017 work.
The window sticker lists factory equipment and a 1970 purchase price of $4k. A Protect-O-Plate is also included in the sale. A series of driving videos can be viewed below.
