This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS sport coupe left the factory equipped with a 454ci V8, and work following the seller’s 2019 acquisition involved installing a 540ci V8, a replacement Muncie M22 four-speed manual transmission, and a Quick Performance rear end with an Eaton differential. Engine components include a forged crankshaft and pistons, Air Flow Research cylinder heads, a Holley carburetor, and a Griffin radiator. The car also has QA1 suspension components, adjustable coilovers, Wilwood six-piston brake calipers, a Hurst line lock system, Magnum 500-style wheels, and a dual exhaust system with Lemons headers and Pypes electric cutouts. The interior houses bucket seats trimmed in Ivory vinyl, Dakota Digital instrumentation, and a retro-style head unit linked to a trunk-mounted amplifier and subwoofer. This Chevelle SS is now offered with a build sheet, refurbishment records, the removed 454ci V8, the removed rear axle, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in red with white stripes and has a white vinyl roof, a cowl-induction hood, a black grille, and LED exterior lighting.
Magnum 500-style 15″ wheels were installed during the build and are fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires up front and Nito NT555R rubber out back. A QA1 Pro Touring suspension kit features adjustable coilovers, sway bars, and control arms. Braking components include Wilwood six-piston calipers at all corners, a Hurst line lock system, and a Detroit Speed master cylinder. The car also has a quick-ratio steering box.
The front bucket seats, rear bench, and door panels are upholstered in Ivory vinyl, and LED under-dash lighting has been installed. The center console houses a Hurst shifter, and a retro-style head unit is linked to Audison components, including a trunk-mounted amplifier and subwoofer.
Dakota Digital instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary readouts. The digital odometer shows 2,900 miles, which is said to represent the miles added since the completion of the build.
The 540ci V8 was sourced from Smeding Performance and installed in 2020. It is equipped with a forged crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons along with a hydraulic roller camshaft, roller lifters, and aluminum rocker arms. Additional components include a Holley 850 cfm carburetor, Air Flow Research cylinder heads, a Concept One pulley system, Moroso catch cans, a Painless wiring harness, and a Griffin radiator with dual fans.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a replacement M22 four-speed manual transmission that was sourced from Wright Connection Speed and has a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. A Quick Performance rear axle with an Eaton Truetrac differential along with a 3″ driveshaft and a stainless-steel fuel tank are also installed. Exhaust components include Lemons headers, Pypes electric cutouts, and stainless-steel mufflers.
