This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible was modified as a Z/28 tribute under prior ownership, and the seller purchased it in May 2019 out of Oklahoma. The car has been refinished in white with black stripes over a reupholstered black interior, and power is supplied by a replacement 383ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The seller has further modified the car with power front disc brakes and tubular front suspension components. This first-generation Camaro is now offered with an extra steering wheel, a Hotchkis frame connector kit, and a clean Kansas title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Butternut Yellow with a black soft top (Y2), the car was repainted in white with black stripes under prior ownership. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers with rear bumperettes, dual exhaust outlets below the rear bumper, added Z/28 badges, and a black soft top that can be seen raised in the photo gallery below. The power-top switch, hydraulic hoses, and one hydraulic ram have been replaced under current ownership, and videos of the top in operation can be viewed here and here. The seller notes scuff marks and tears in the convertible top, as well as a chip in the windshield that has been repaired. Close-up photos of imperfections are provided in the gallery. The rear passenger-side of the car was damaged in a parking incident in November 2020, and was subsequently repaired by the seller in January 2021. Before and after photos and an invoice detailing the repair work are provided at the end of the photo gallery.
Staggered-width 15″ Rally wheels are wrapped in 205/65 Douglas all-season tires up front and 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires at the rear, which are said to have been replaced during the seller’s ownership. Front disc brakes have also been installed, and the front suspension has been modified with tubular control arms, shocks, sway bar, and links. A subsequent alignment was performed in August 2019.
The black vinyl interior (712) was reupholstered under prior ownership and features a woodgrain center console with auxiliary gauges. Additional amenities include lap belts, an aftermarket stereo, aftermarket speakers mounted on the rear-seat side panels, and a white shift knob. The seller has replaced both door-close switches and the light switch but notes that the interior lights turn on intermittently on their own.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and an added 8k-rpm tachometer. Additional auxiliary gauges are located in the center console ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer displays just under 29k miles, approximately 150 of which have been added by the seller. An additional three-spoke Camaro steering wheel is included in the sale and pictured in the gallery.
The 383ci V8 was installed under prior ownership, and it is equipped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor and a chrome Edelbrock air-cleaner cover. The wiring and wiring harness, water pump, thermostat, alternator, power-steering pump, temperature- and fuel-gauge sending units, and hoses have all reportedly been replaced under current ownership, and the seller notes evidence of weeping from the oil-pan gasket. The car’s chassis number indicates that it was originally equipped with a six-cylinder engine.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement four-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery. In-car driving footage is presented below.
