This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sport coupe is finished in red with black stripes over a black vinyl interior and is powered by a fuel-injected 502ci V8 Ram Jet crate engine linked with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a Currie nine-inch rear axle. Additional features include a black vinyl roof, a cowl-induction hood, Hooker headers, Currie Currectrac rear lower control arms, front and rear sway bars, and staggered-width 15″ aluminum wheels. The car was acquired by the seller as an unfinished project in 2016 out of Tonawanda, New York, and relocated to Washington State. Work completed under current ownership included installation of a Sony head unit connected to Rockford Fosgate speakers as well as a replacement headliner, door panels, and kick panels. This Chevelle is now offered with recent parts invoices, a battery tender, and a Washington State title.
The car was refinished in red with black stripes following bodywork performed under previous ownership, according to the seller. Additional features include a cowl-induction hood, a black vinyl roof, H4 headlamps, Chevelle badging, SS 502 fender badging, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The seller notes that a scratch is present on the driver’s door and cracks are visible above each of the taillights.
Staggered-width 15″ aluminum wheels are fitted with 245/60 front and 275/60 rear Dunlop G/T Qualifier tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. A Hotchkis sway bar is installed up front, while suspension modifications out back include installation of Currie Currectrac rear lower control arms and an upgraded sway bar. Recent work is said to have included replacing a power steering line.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl accompanied by a matching dash, a full-length center console, and carpets protected by diamond-stitched floor mats. Interior work completed under current ownership reportedly included installation of a Sony CD stereo head unit connected to Rockford Fosgate speakers as well as replacement headliner, inner door panels, kick panels, and rear parcel shelf trim behind the rear seats.
An aftermarket steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and a fuel level gauge. A Bosch tachometer is mounted under the dash along with aftermarket auxiliary gauges for transmission fluid temperature, oil pressure, and water temperature. The seller states that the tachometer is not connected and that the transmission fluid temperature gauge reads high. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 88k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The fuel-injected 502ci V8 Ram Jet crate engine was installed under previous ownership and features an MSD ignition, a Be Cool aluminum radiator, a Moroso oil pan, and Chevrolet-branded valve covers with “502 by Tonawanda Engine” decals.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, a custom driveshaft from Denny’s Driveshafts, and a Currie nine-inch rear axle. Additional equipment includes a B&M transmission pan as well as a dual exhaust system with Hooker headers.
