This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible is powered by a 327ci V8 paired with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, and it was sold new by Baierl Chevrolet in Wexford, Pennsylvania in June 1968. The car is reported to have undergone a repaint in red and engine rebuild prior to its purchase by the seller’s father in 2014, and subsequent additions are said to have included installation of an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, front disc brakes, and front lowering springs as well as the relocation of the shifter, installation of front and rear spoilers, updates to the ignition system, and replacement of the convertible top. This Camaro convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with the factory warranty booklet, Protect-O-Plate, removed factory components, and a clean California title.
The car was refinished in its factory shade of Matador Red (R2) during prior ownership according to the seller, who notes subsequent additions include front and rear spoilers and a replacement black convertible top equipped with a glass rear window. Additional features include chrome rocker and wheel-arch trim, dual mirrors, and 327 badging, the latter of which is absent on the left-front fender.
Rallye wheels wear chrome trim rings and hub covers and are wrapped in 15″ BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, and visible sidewall cracks are shown in the gallery below. Power-assisted disc brakes were fitted up front during current ownership, and suspension modifications consist of a tubular front control arms matched with Eibach lowering springs.
Black vinyl upholstery with channeled inserts covers the front bucket seats and the rear bench. Equipment includes manually operated windows and a period Delco radio, and during current ownership a center console housing the relocated shifter was added.
Interior materials, equipment, and instrumentation are further shown in the gallery. Just over 80k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 10k of which have been added by the current owner. Actual mileage is unknown.
The 327ci V8 was rated at 210 horsepower when new and is paired with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Per the seller, the engine was rebuilt during prior ownership, and has since been fitted with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, a polished air cleaner, and an MSD ignition equipped with a hidden kill switch. The seller notes an exhaust hanger requires replacement, and the removed factory components are included in the sale.
The engine stamping shown above contains the ME suffix, which corresponds with the two-barrel 327ci engine for Powerglide-equipped applications.
Additional photos are presented in the gallery below showing the suspension, chassis, and driveline, as well as noted underbody corrosion.
The factory warranty booklet denotes issue by Baierl Chevrolet in June 1968, and retains the included Protect-O-Plate.
