This Chevrolet Camaro was built at the General Motors Norwood plant in Cincinnati, Ohio in April 1968. A CE-code “service replacement” 302ci V8 reportedly replaced the original engine early in the car’s life and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Other equipment includes a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, a center console with auxiliary gauges, Rallye wheels, and power disc brakes. A repaint in Rally Green was performed under previous ownership. This Z/28 is offered by the selling dealer in Connecticut with a Protect-O-Plate, an owner’s manual, a certificate of authenticity from Jerry MacNeish, and a clean Illinois title.
The body panels have been refinished in Rally Green, which was its original color according to the certificate from Camaro Hi-Performance LLC below. White stripes were applied to the hood and deck lid.
Optional Rallye wheels wear chrome hubcaps and beauty rings, and are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires at all four corners. The car was reportedly optioned with power disc brakes up front.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl and accented by wood veneers and chrome trim. Detailed photos showing the stock radio, switchgear, gauges, and seat belt tags are provided in the gallery. A Hurst shifter with a cueball knob is housed in the center console.
Instrumentation includes an optional in-dash tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, supplementary gauges in the center console, and a clock which reportedly works intermittently. The 5-digit odometer indicates 82 miles, including 400 added by the selling dealer.
The 302ci V8 bears the prefix of CE, reportedly indicating a “service replacement” that was installed following the failure of the original engine. A safety inspection, oil and filter change, and chassis lube were performed by the selling dealer.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an M21 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt Positraction rear end with 3.73 gears. Additional photographs of the undercarriage and exhaust system are featured in the gallery below.
A certificate of authenticity from Jerry MacNeish was issued in December 2018. A factory owner’s manual and a Protect-O-Plate are also included in the sale.
