This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible is an export model believed to have been built from a CKD kit by General Motors Continental in Antwerp, Belgium and originally sold at Hersteller GMC Chevrolet in Germany. The car is said to have been brought to the US in 1998 and stored indoors until the seller’s acquisition from an estate sale approximately two months ago. Powered by a 327ci V8 paired with a 2-speed automatic transmission, it is finished in white with a black Deluxe interior and equipped with a center console and a folding rear seat along with power steering and brakes. Service following the seller’s acquisition included flushing the fuel lines as well as replacement of the fuel pump and battery. This Camaro is offered with a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in white with a black soft top, and the seller states that it was repainted in the past. European-style side markers and reflectors are fitted along with a European license plate bearing a 1999 registration sticker. Bubbles in the paintwork are noted on the lower left quarter panel.
Body-matched steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone H-330 tires which should be replaced due to age. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and brakes.
The optional Deluxe interior is trimmed in black vinyl and features bucket seats split by a full-length console, molded door panels, a woodgrain center dash surround, a horseshoe-style shifter, and four auxiliary gauges. The rear seat folds down as shown in the gallery below.
A factory-style AM radio remains in the dash. Instrumentation includes a “Tic-Toc-Tach” and a 120-mph speedometer, which houses a 5-digit odometer showing approximately 97k miles.
The 327ci V8 is equipped with a remote-mount ignition coil and has been modified with an open-element air cleaner, Edelbrock carburetor, and exhaust headers. The seller states that the fuel pump and battery have been replaced and the fuel tank has been drained and flushed, but recommends that the fluids be serviced and a safety check completed. The car is said to run and drive, but has not been used regularly since at least 1999.
The engine stamping matches the last eight digits of the VIN and chassis tags shown in the gallery below.
Trim tags from the Norwood, Ohio plant as well as those from European assembly are affixed to the cowl. The Antwerp tag decodes as follows:
- 12467 – Camaro convertible
- C2 – Ermine White with black soft top
- 714 – Black Deluxe vinyl interior
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, and a dual exhaust system is fitted. Additional underbody photos can be seen in the gallery below.
