This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 sport coupe was built at the Oshawa, Ontario plant on January 12, 1970, and was initially delivered in Vancouver, British Columbia. A refurbishment was completed in 1999, and the car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2020. Power is provided by a 402ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and features include a Positraction limited-slip differential, 14″ Sport wheels, and front disc brakes. The car is finished in blue with black stripes and has a cowl-induction hood, a black grille, front bucket seats, ivory vinyl upholstery, a horseshoe-style shifter, and an AM radio. This SS 396 is now offered by the selling dealer with production documentation from GM Canada and Ontario registration.
Finished from the factory in Lime Green Metallic with a white vinyl top, the car was painted in its current combination of blue with black stripes as part of the refurbishment, which also reportedly included the replacement of portions of the trunk, quarter panels, and wheelhouses. It is equipped with a cowl-induction hood, a black grille, a driver-side mirror, hideaway windshield wipers, and chrome bumpers. Portions of the gallery were taken in 2023.
The 14″ SS wheels are mounted with 235/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The car was equipped from the factory with power steering, heavy-duty suspension, and power-assisted front disc brakes.
The front bucket and rear bench seats have been re-trimmed in ivory vinyl, and the cabin was refreshed with a replacement headliner, carpets, and door panels. Interior appointments include a horseshoe-style shifter, a center console, an AM radio, power windows, and a cabin heater.
The tilting steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a replacement 7k-rpm tachometer, and readouts for amperage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles miles, approximately 3k miles of which were added under current ownership.
The Turbo-Jet 402ci V8 was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission and a Positraction limited-slip differential.
Additional production specifications from GM of Canada are presented in the gallery below.
The vehicle does not have a title and is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada, and carries an “unplated” notation.
