This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible is a red-over-red example that is powered by a replacement 396ci V8 paired with a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. The car was acquired by the current owner in January 2015, and subsequent work included installing four-wheel disc brakes featuring red-finished calipers and cross-drilled and slotted rotors. Additional equipment includes 17″ American Racing wheels, a white soft top, Sunpro auxiliary gauges, a retro-style digital stereo, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, tubular exhaust headers, and a dual exhaust system. This Chevelle Malibu convertible is now offered with a car cover, a four-way lug wrench, a factory assembly manual, a chassis service manual, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
The body was repainted red under previous ownership and is equipped with a white convertible soft top. Exterior details include chrome-finished bumpers and trim, simulated hood vents, SS and 396 badging, and dual exhaust outlets.
Polished American Racing Torq Thrust 17″ wheels are mounted with Hankook Ventus Sport K104 tires measuring 235/45 up front and 255/50 out back. A steel spare wheel with a Grand Am Radial GT tire is housed in the trunk. The braking system was converted to power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with red-finished calipers and cross-drilled and slotted rotors at all four corners in February 2022.
The cabin houses two rows of bench seating upholstered in red vinyl and complimented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include front lap belts, hand-crank windows, quarter vent windows, a heater, and a retro-style digital stereo
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring with a Chevelle-branded horn button and frames a 120-mph horizontal-sweep speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel level gauge, while Sunpro gauges for coolant temperature, battery voltage, and oil pressure are mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit mechanical odometer has a faded second digit, and the seller reports that it shows 66k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The replacement 396ci V8 features an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and polished engine accessories as well as a chrome-finished air cleaner and valve covers. A battery cut-off switch is mounted on the right side of the engine bay. An oil change was last performed in February 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Powerglide two-speed transmission. Tubular exhaust headers and a dual exhaust system have been fitted.
