This 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible was acquired by the current owner in 2004 and subsequently underwent a refurbishment and modification process. Work consisted of repainting the car in black with white stripes and reupholstering the cabin in white vinyl along with installing a stroked 555ci V8 mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and an Auburn PosiTraction differential. Additional equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, 15″ Cragar wheels, front disc brakes, an adjustable rear suspension, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and cylinder heads, a Holley HP carburetor, heated front bucket seats, air conditioning, and a Delco AM/FM stereo. The carburetor was rebuilt in October 2022, and the heater core was replaced in May 2023. This Chevelle Malibu convertible is now offered on behalf of the current owner in Kansas with service records from 2005 onwards as well as an owner’s manual and a clean Missouri title.
The body was finished from the factory in Gulf Green (43) and underwent a color change to the current shade of Tuxedo Black with white SS-style center stripes. Equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, a cowl induction hood, hood pins, chrome bumpers and trim, SS-style badging, and dual exhaust outlets. Scratches are noted on the front bumper, bubbling is present on the right-rear quarter panel above the taillights, and scratches and chips are observed around the body.
Chrome 15″ Cragar wheels show blemishes and are mounted with older BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires sized 215/70 front and 275/60 rear. The rear suspension is equipped with aftermarket adjustable tubular control arms and bracing along with front and rear sway bars. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The interior was overhauled and fitted with heated front bucket seats a rear bench seat reupholstered in white vinyl. Replacement white door panels and black carpeting were also installed, and additional equipment includes a Hurst shifter, floor mats, a heater, air conditioning, and a Delco AM/FM stereo. The air conditioning system was converted to utilize R134A refrigerant, and the heater core was replaced in May 2023.
The big-block V8 was stroked and modified by Pedigo Performance of Wichita, Kansas, to displace 555ci with a Dart Big M block, 10:1 compression forged SRP pistons, Callies 4340 forged steel internals, a 4.25″-stroke crankshaft and connecting rods, and a hydraulic roller camshaft. Additional equipment includes an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and cylinder heads, a Holley HP carburetor, a Moroso oil pan, a PerTronix Second Strike ignition system, a MotoRad aluminum radiator, Hedman headers, and a custom exhaust system. The carburetor was rebuilt in October 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission with a Centerforce clutch and Lakewood bellhousing along with an Auburn PosiTration rear axle with 3.73:1 gearing and heavy-duty axles. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
