This 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was fitted with a 496ci stroker V8 before the seller’s acquisition in 2019, and the engine is reportedly assembled with an Eagle rotating assembly, Brodix cylinder heads, a Quickfuel carburetor, and MSD ignition components. The TH350 three-speed automatic transmission features a deep sump pan and a revised torque converter, while the 12-bolt rear housing is equipped with a limited-slip differential with 3.08:1 gearing and JEGS axles. The car is finished in gold with black stripes over black vinyl upholstery, and equipment includes front disc brakes, 15″ alloy wheels, tubular headers, an aluminum radiator, and an AM/FM radio. The fuel system was reportedly overhauled, the brakes were serviced, and the lifters, rocker arms, engine mounts, and cooling fans were replaced in 2023. This modified Chevelle is now offered with an owner’s manual, factory warranty booklet, recent service records, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Mojave Gold (63) and was refinished under previous ownership. Additional exterior details include black racing stripes, chrome bumpers, chrome half-moon headlight covers, a cowl induction hood, SS and 454 badging, bright rocker and wheel arch trim, and dual exhaust outlets. Carbon build-up from the exhaust is visible on the rear valance.
Gray-finished 15″ Eagle cast-aluminum wheels feature machined lips and are mounted with 235/60 front and 255/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The car is equipped with power steering and a 12.7:1-ratio steering box, and replacement springs, gas shocks, and adjustable control arms were reportedly fitted under previous ownership. Braking is handled by front cross-drilled and slotted discs and rear drums. The right rear drum was repaired and the brake proportioning valve was replaced in June 2023.
The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in black vinyl and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a floor-mounted B&M MegaShifter, all-weather floor mats, lap seatbelts, and a Custom Autosound AM/FM radio.
The Grant steering wheel features polished spokes and frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and an analog clock, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure are mounted beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership. The coolant temperature gauge was replaced in June 2023.
The 496ci stroker V8 was installed under previous ownership, and modifications are said to include:
- Eagle crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons
- Brodix cylinder heads
- Lunati hydraulic roller lifters
- Quickfuel SS-830 carburetor
- MSD ignition components
- Aluminum radiator
- Electric cooling fans
Exhaust gases exit through tubular headers and a dual exhaust system with 3″ piping. Work in June 2023 included replacing the fuel pump, battery, lifters, rocker arms, and engine mounts along with installing high-output electric cooling fans. The seller states the engine is tuned to run on premium fuel with a race gas additive.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle fitted with a limited-slip differential, 3.08:1 gearing, and JEGS axles. The transmission was reportedly modified under previous ownership with a deep sump transmission pan, a 3000-rpm stall converter, and a Coan sprag, while replacement rear axle seals and bearings were installed. Work in June 2023 included refurbishing the front cross member and replacing the fuel tank and sending unit.
