This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible was manufactured during the fifth week of March at the Norwood, Ohio assembly plant and is equipped with the Z11 Indy Sports Convertible Accents package. Power is supplied by a replacement 396ci L78 Turbo-Jet V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes a white vinyl convertible top, front disc brakes, a radio, and woodgrain interior trim. The Z11 option also added the RS and SS packages, a Custom interior with orange houndstooth upholstery, a cowl-induction hood, and fender striping as well as front and rear spoilers. The car was restored from 2019-2021 following its removal from several years in storage. This Z11 Camaro convertible was delivered new to Bob Johnson Chevrolet in Wausau, Wisconsin and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with photos from the restoration, a build sheet, a Protect-O-Plate, and a clean Illinois title.
The Z11 package was introduced in early 1969 to outfit a limited run of production convertibles with trim replicating that of the official pace cars built for the 53rd Indianapolis 500. Fewer than 3,700 cars were sold with the option, all finished in Dove White (50) with Z28-style hood and trunk stripes in Hugger Orange. This example was repainted on a rotisserie during the aforementioned restoration, and photos taken during the process are shown in the gallery. Replacement pace car side graphics were added at that time, and additional features include a white vinyl convertible top, an orange boot cover, front and rear spoilers, a cowl induction hood, SS badging, hideaway headlights, and fog lamps.
Factory 14″ Rally wheels with polished trim rings and center caps are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas white-letter tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The suspension components were powder-coated and replaced during the restoration.
The cabin houses high-back front bucket seats and a rear bench that are trimmed in orange vinyl with houndstooth cloth inserts along with matching door panels and black carpeting. Woodgrain trim is found on the dash, center console, and steering wheel, and appointments include a radio, a Hurst shifter, lap belts, and a heater.
A two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer while gauges for fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure are found on the center console. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 was installed during the restoration and is said to have had a fluid service recently performed following the engine break-in period. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The JH suffix corresponds with the 375-horsepower, 396ci L78 V8 for manual-transmission applications.
The frame was powder-coated during the restoration and additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
