This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 convertible is said to have remained with the same extended family from new, and it was acquired by the current owner in 2021. The body was repainted in white in 2002, and a replacement 396ci V8 was reportedly installed in 2018. Refurbishment work in preparation for the sale is reported to have included replacement of the black soft top, red door panels and carpets, door weatherstripping, chrome bumpers, fuel tank, exhaust system, power steering box and pump, water pump, and spark plugs, as well as the installation of an aluminum radiator and an MSD ignition control module. The speedometer and tachometer do not work, and the five-digit odometer shows 84k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 396ci V8 is a replacement unit reportedly sourced from a 1969 model and installed in 2018. An aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold is topped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and a polished accessory drive assembly accents the front of the engine. The selling dealer states that the air cleaner, battery, water pump, power steering pump, alternator, spark plugs, and accessory belts were replaced and an aluminum radiator, a seven-blade fan, and an MSD ignition control module were installed in 2024.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction limited-slip differential. The fuel tank and the dual exhaust system were replaced in preparation for the sale according to the selling dealer.
