This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro was restored by the seller in 2006 and has been fitted with a 400ci SBC and a T56 6-speed manual transmission. Originally a red on red example equipped with a 327 and a Powerglide, the car was purchased by the seller’s sister in Pennsylvania and moved to Concord, New Hampshire in spring 1991. She used it as her daily driver for her senior year at high school and owned it until October 2000. After acquiring the car, the seller restored it in the body shop at the Chevrolet dealership where he worked in the parts department. In addition to the upgraded drivetrain, a performance suspension and four-wheel disc brakes were installed, the interior was refurbished, and the body was repainted. The car has been stored since September 2012, though it has been serviced each year with oil changes, brake fluid flushes, and other routine maintenance. Recently inspected and registered, this Camaro is sold with records back to 1991 and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.
During the restoration, the car was repainted in Cadillac Dark Ming Blue Metallic with Galaxy Silver stripes. The finish looks glossy and is in good shape after being consistently garaged, though the seller notes a couple of small dings on the right front fender, one on the left rear quarter, one on the trunk lid. The paint on the hood is cracked above the left front hood bumper and left rear hinge.
New body panels used in the restoration process included fenders, inner fenders, doors, rocker panels, full quarter panels, inner quarter panels, and floor panels. A fiberglass cowl induction hood with steel frame from US Body Source was installed utilizing the factory hood hinges. No evidence of any accident damage was found during the process, and all of the sheetmetal and paintwork was completed in 2006.
The suspension was fitted with Eibach springs, stock upper control arms with Guldstrand relocation modification, Global West tubular lower control arms, a Hotchkis 1.25” hollow sway bar up front, and Guldstrand leafs with QA1 single-adjustable shocks in the rear. A small rear sway bar is also included but has not been installed. Four-wheel disc brakes from a 2000 Z28 include slotted rotors and Hawk HP pads. American Racing 16×8″ Torque Thrust D wheels wear Toyo 245/50 tires.
Inside, Corbeau front seats with recline and fore/aft adjust were added along with G-Force Racing harnesses attached to an Autopower Industries bolt-in four-point roll bar. The interior panels are original to the car and were dyed black many years ago. The seller notes there is no headliner or C-pillar trim pieces.
White-faced AutoMeter Phantom gauges have been fitted in the dash and center console. Instrumentation includes a speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, water temp, fuel level, and fuel pressure gauge. A multi-position proportioning valve for the brake system can be seen next to the Hurst shifter. An aftermarket steering wheel and head unit have also been installed.
The car is powered by a 400ci small block V8 sourced from a 1979 Chevrolet that is bored +0.040” and features 4-bolt splayed steel main caps. All machine work was done by R&L Engines in Dover, New Hampshire, and the final assembly was performed by the seller. The last dyno test showed the car produced 361 hp and 408 lb-ft of torque. The engine utilizes various components detailed above.
A 6-speed manual transmission was sourced from a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am, overhauled, and upgraded with Viper cast iron shift forks and later model carbon blocking rings. The transmission was installed in 2003 and has a RAM Billet aluminum flywheel and Centerforce clutch. The rear axle uses a 1978 Cadillac Seville 8.5” housing with a Richmond Gear 4.10 final drive. The engine was brought to its current spec in 2010-2011 and is said to have no more than 1k miles on it. Most recent service was an oil/filter change last year, and the seller reports the car achieved 18.7 mpg on its last road trip.
An Optima battery is mounted in the trunk with an exposed battery kill switch. Many original trim pieces that were not re-installed after paint come with the car. These include the shark’s gills, lower rocker trim, etc. Service records dating back to 1991, and receipts from the build that fill a 3″ binder.
Videos of a cold start and of the car driving have been provided by the seller.
