This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 coupe is finished in yellow over a black interior and powered by a numbers-matching 396ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a black vinyl roof, a Delco AM radio, a center console, black nose and side stripes, bucket seats, power-assisted drum brakes, and dual exhaust. The car is said to have been sold new in North Carolina and was acquired by the seller in July 2020. This Super Sport Chevelle is now offered with an owner’s manual, recent service records, and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Palomino Ivory, the car reportedly was repainted in Butternut Yellow under previous ownership. Black stripes were applied to the lower body panels and nose, and additional details include a black vinyl roof, chrome sideview mirrors, SS and 396 badging, and chrome bumpers. The seller notes rust spots near the vinyl top, and the passenger door exhibits waviness.
Rally 15″ wheels with trim rings and hubcaps are mounted with 205/75 Coker Classic redline tires. A spare tire is located in the trunk. The drum brakes were converted to power-assist with installation of a brake booster in mid-2020. The brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and shocks have been replaced under current ownership.
The bucket-seat interior has been reupholstered in black vinyl. Equipment includes a center console, a heater, a Delco AM radio, and Chevelle-embroidered black floor mats. Interior wear can be seen in close-up photos in the gallery below.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer and an analog clock surrounded by auxiliary gauges. Aftermarket gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage are mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 396ci V8 features a four-barrel carburetor, chrome rocker covers and open-element air filter, and a dual exhaust system. An oil change was completed in November 2021.
The serial number stamped into the engine block matches the final eight characters of the car’s chassis number. Code suffix ET—located nearby on the same stamping pad—is consistent with a 396ci V8 rated to produce 325 horsepower and paired with a TH400 transmission for the 1968 model year.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission.
