This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro was acquired by the current owner in 2005 with the intention of building a COPO tribute powered by an aluminum ZL-1 V8. The car has been refinished in Fathom Green over a black vinyl interior, and power comes from a 427ci V8 utilizing a ZL-1 anniversary block, aluminum cylinder heads with Winters Foundry snowflake markings, and an aluminum intake manifold also with Winters Foundry markings. The engine is paired with a Muncie M-21 four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt 4.30:1 Posi-traction rear differential. The build was completed in 2019, and according to the selling dealer, the owner has added less than 100 miles since. Additional equipment includes a Holley four-barrel carburetor, MSD electronic ignition, power-assisted front disc brakes, and a replacement cowl hood. This Camaro is now offered on dealer consignment in Florida with build photos and a clean Michigan title in the owner’s name.
According to the selling dealer, the body was disassembled, stripped, and refinished in Fathom Green as part of the refurbishment completed in 2019. The car features a replacement cowl hood, a dual-exit exhaust system, and chrome bumpers.
14″ steel wheels are finished in black and wear chrome dog-dish hubcaps and Goodyear Polyglas raised-white-letter tires. The suspension was rebuilt as part of the refurbishment completed in 2019, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl and features front bucket seats, retractable lap belts, shoulder belts, and a Hurst shifter. A blanking plate is fitted in place of the radio, and no trunk mat is present.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 21k miles, and the selling dealer states that less than 100 miles have been added since the completion of the build. True mileage is unknown.
The 427ci big-block V8 is said to utilize one of 427 aluminum ZL-1 anniversary blocks released by GM in the late 2000s. The block features a plate from Schwartz Machine Company of Warren, Michigan, and other equipment reportedly includes aluminum cylinder heads with Winters Foundry snowflake markings, an aluminum intake manifold with Winters Foundry markings, and 12.5:1-compression domed aluminum pistons. Additional equipment includes a Harrison four-core radiator and a hidden MSD electronic ignition system. The seller recommends that the car be run on high-octane fuel, preferably 110 octane.
Casting marks on the Holley four-barrel carburetor include part number 3955205 and a list number of 4296, identifying it as having been produced for a 1969 427ci V8. The seller dealer states that the carburetor was rebuilt by Holley.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie M-21 four-speed transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle with a 4.30:1 Posi-traction differential. The mandrel-bent exhaust system was built to mimic a factory ZL-1 system but is said to use larger tubing.
An overview and driving video is provided above, and a video of the engine running on a dynamometer is presented below.
