This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible was acquired two decades ago by the current owner, who is said to have commissioned a build by Fat Jack Robinson around 2005. The exterior was refinished in black and orange with a black soft top, and the cabin was reworked with matching two-tone leather upholstery. A 5.7-liter LS6 V8 delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9″ rear axle. Additional modifications include 17″ Billet Specialty wheels, Baer disc brakes, Bilstein coilover suspension, an aftermarket stereo system and instrumentation, Vintage Air climate control, and an aluminum radiator. The car reportedly has been maintained by the owner’s staff, and an oil change was recently performed. This custom second-generation Bel Air is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a clean California title.
The car was painted in two-tone orange over black approximately 15 years ago and features a black soft top as well as chrome-finished trim with engine-turned inlays and orange pinstriping.
Chrome-finished 17″ Billet Specialty wheels wear three-eared spinners. The 225/45 front and 255/50 rear Nitto NT555 tires were recently installed according to the seller. Braking is handled via Baer multi-piston calipers on cross-drilled rotors, and additional modifications include Bilstein coilover suspension components at each corner as well as power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering.
The interior is said to have been done by Mike Ray and features two rows of bench seating with custom black and orange leather upholstery with ostrich-skin accents that are also present on the door panels. Black carpeting has been fitted along with matching floor mats and a machined-aluminum brake-pedal assembly. Amenities include a Vintage Air climate-control system.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a black-painted steel dashboard with engine-turned trim and orange pinstriping. An aftermarket stereo and instrument panel have been fitted, and the mechanical odometer shows approximately 500 miles. True mileage is unknown, and about 5k miles are said to have been added by the current owner.
The trunk is upholstered to match the cabin.
The 5.7-liter LS6 V8 features carbon-fiber valve covers with custom orange and silver paintwork. Orange pinstriping has also been added to the intake manifold. A cold-air intake, stainless-steel exhaust, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans have been installed. The seller states that the owner has a personal staff that maintains his car collection and that an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed 4L60E automatic transmission and a Ford 9″ rear axle. The chassis has been modified to accommodate the four-link rear end and coilover suspension. Additional bracing can be seen in photos of the underside provided in the gallery below.
