This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro coupe was produced at GM’s Van Nuys, California facility and underwent a refurbishment during prior ownership that was completed in 2008. The car is finished in red over a red and white interior and is equipped with a replacement 383ci V8 paired with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional modifications include a 2½” exhaust system, Hotchkis suspension components, Wilwood disc brakes, and Vintage Air climate control. Acquired in 2019 by the current owner, this Camaro is now offered on dealer consignment with a clean New Jersey title.
The body is said to have been refinished in its current red by Perfection Collision of Ocala, Florida, followed by replacements of the glass and exterior trim. Per the seller, the hood, fenders, and passenger-side quarter panel have been replaced. Features include a cowl-induction hood, white stripes, Z/28 badging, and a rear spoiler. The finish is shown up close in the photo gallery below.
Rallye wheels wear chrome trim rings and hub covers and are wrapped in 15″ BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Wilwood disc brakes are fitted up front, and the vehicle is also equipped with a power-assisted Unisteer rack-and-pinion kit.
Replacement white upholstery with knit inserts covers the front bucket seats and the rear bench. Additional modifications include an air-conditioning system from Vintage Air, a Hurst shifter, and an Ididit tilt steering column.
Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset clock, as well as gauges for oil pressure, amperage, fuel level, and water temperature positioned ahead of the shifter. Approximately 51k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer. Actual mileage is unknown.
The replacement small-block Chevrolet V8 has been built to a displacement of 383 cubic inches, and features include four-bolt main bearings, a Competition Cams roller camshaft, balanced Eagle rotating assemblies, Edelbrock cylinder heads, a Holley Quick Fuel carburetor, an aluminum radiator, and a dual exhaust system equipped with Flowmaster mufflers. A Centerforce clutch was installed in 2015 according to the seller, who notes that work in 2017 included honing the cylinders, replacing the piston rings, and resealing the engine. The car’s serial number indicates that it was originally powered by a V8 engine.
Further updates include an aluminum driveshaft as well as Hotchkis frame connectors and front lowering springs. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ housing with a limited-slip differential with 3.55:1 gears.
