This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS is finished in Cordovan Maroon over a black interior and powered by a numbers-matching 396ci L78 V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a 12-bolt positraction rear end with 3.73:1 ratio, 14″ paint-matched steel wheels with chrome covers, redline tires, a black vinyl roof, a white “bumblebee” front stripe, chrome bumpers, power brakes, front bucket seats, wood trim, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Delco push-button AM/FM radio. A body-off refurbishment completed under prior ownership included repairing and repainting the body along with rebuilding the engine, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain. This Camaro SS is offered in Maryland on dealership consignment with refurbishment photos, a MacNeish report, an American Camaro Association Legend Certification, and a clean Virginia title.
The body was removed from the frame, repaired, and refinished in its factory shade of Cordovan Maroon. Exterior features include a black vinyl roof, white “bumblebee” front stripe, chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, a vented hood, SS and 396 badging, and a dual-exit exhaust. The selling dealer notes that Jerry’s Hot Rods of Hampstead, Maryland performed the paint and bodywork, and factory General Motors replacement parts were reportedly used throughout the refurbishment.
The 14″ steel wheels are painted Cordovan Maroon, wear chrome covers, and are equipped with Firestone redline tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted drums all around, and multi-leaf rear springs were factory equipment.
The factory seating was retrimmed in black vinyl and feature a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. The car is equipped with lap belts for all occupants, and additional features include standard front bucket seats, wood trim, a glovebox, a Muncie shifter, manually operated windows, and a Delco push-button AM/FM radio.
The factory wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 130 miles have been added since the refurbishment was completed. Total mileage is unknown.
The numbers-matching 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 was factory rated at 375 horsepower. The selling dealer states that the engine was rebuilt by Jerry MacNeish and the car was assembled by Lucas Restorations. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt positraction rear axle with a 3.73:1 ratio. The MacNeish report notes that the transmission has been replaced under prior ownership. Images of the engine stamping are provided in the gallery.
The car is said to have been originally delivered to Emmert Chevrolet of Detroit, Michigan, and the trim tag decodes as follows:
- Style: 68 12437 – Two Door Sport Coupe
- Body: NOR30934 – Norwood, Ohio Assembly
