This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 sports coupe underwent a refurbishment in 2011, and work since the seller’s 2020 acquisition included installing a 468ci V8 and a five-speed Tremec manual transmission. The engine was assembled with Mahle pistons, an Isky camshaft, MSD ignition, a Holley carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and an aluminum radiator with Spal electric fans, and further equipment includes a limited-slip rear differential, Viking front coilovers, power four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ Cragar wheels, ceramic-coated headers, and a McLeod clutch kit. The cabin is outfitted with black vinyl bucket seats, air conditioning, Dakota Digital gauges, and a retro-look digital stereo. This modified Chevelle SS396 is offered with a GM of Canada build sheet, an owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Lemonwood Yellow (Y), and the body was removed from the frame and placed on a rotisserie during the 2011 refurbishment. The bodywork was taken to bare metal and repainted in the BMW shade of Dakar Yellow, and details include a black grille, taillight panel, and faux hood vents as well as quad headlights, chrome bumpers, SS badging, electric windshield wipers, quarter vent windows, and bright trim.
Chrome 15″ Cragar S/S wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Viking adjustable coilovers are fitted up front, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl, and the cabin was refurbished circa 2011. Interior appointments include a floor-mounted shifter, a retro-look digital stereo, and air conditioning.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a Dakota Digital instrument cluster with a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary readouts. The odometer shows 98 miles, which is said to represent the mileage added since the engine was installed. Total mileage is unknown.
The 468ci V8 was assembled by VortecPro Racing & Machine of Colorado in 2022, and it is equipped with an Isky 275/284 camshaft, Mahle pistons, MSD ignition, and a Holley Street Avenger carburetor atop the Edelbrock intake manifold, according to the seller. An aluminum radiator with Spal electric fans provides cooling, and the dual exhaust system includes ceramic-coated 3″ headers and Flowmaster mufflers. A dynamometer report lists a peak engine output of 604 horsepower.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a PosiTraction limited-slip differential. Modifications are said to consist of a McLeod clutch kit and a Lakewood bell housing.
