This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Sport Coupe was acquired by the seller’s father-in-law approximately 10 years ago, and a 2022 body-off refurbishment included a refinish in white, the replacement of the quarter panels, trunk floor, and tail pane, and the addition of power-assisted disc brakes. The car is powered by a 396ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission and is equipped with a 12-bolt rear axle, 15″ Rallye-style wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, an Edelbrock intake manifold, power steering, red upholstery, and a retro-style head unit. This Chevelle SS396 is offered by the seller on behalf of their father-in-law with refurbishment photos and a clean Maryland title in the current owner’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in Ermine White (C-C) and was refinished during refurbishment work completed during the summer of 2022. The body was removed from the frame and the seller states that the quarter panels, trunk floor, and tail panel were replaced. Exterior details include quad headlights, a blacked-out grille, chrome bumpers, hood scoops, a driver-side mirror, front vent windows, “SS” and “396” badging, and dual polished exhaust outlets. Additional close-up images detailing badging, lighting, and trim are included in the gallery below.
Silver-finished 15″ Rallye-style steel wheels wear bright trim rings with center caps and are mounted with 215/70 Mastercraft A/S IV whitewall tires. Power-assisted front disc brakes were added to the car during current ownership and are complemented by rear drums.
The cabin is equipped with front bucket seats and a rear bench are trimmed in red upholstery as well as a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include an analog clock, a heater and defroster, hand-crank side windows, SS 396-branded red rubber floor mats, and a retro-style head unit.
A two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, auxiliary gauges, and a tachometer mounted to the lower dash. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, less than 500 miles of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.
The 396ci V8 features an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle.
