This 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 underwent a refurbishment beginning in 2004 which included the installation of a 383ci V8 Chevrolet Performance crate engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The car was fitted with a Holley carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold, an MSD ignition, and a Hurst shifter, and additional work included the replacement of suspension components, the window glass, and various trim pieces as well as a refinish in bronze. The interior is trimmed in tan vinyl and cloth and additional equipment includes a cowl-induction hood, Z28 decals, front and rear spoilers, and an Alpine CD stereo. The car resided in North Carolina and was relocated to Tennessee before the seller acquired it in 2021. This Z28 is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, additional parts, service records, a Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory in Light Bronze Mist Metallic (54U) and was refinished under previous ownership. The window glass was also replaced. Features include Z28 graphics on both sides, a cowl-induction hood, fender scoops, body color mirrors, front and rear spoilers, and dual exhaust outlets. The Carfax report notes accidents resulting in damage in August 1994 and April 2004.
Five-spoke 15″ wheels with gold inserts and Hurst center caps are mounted with 225/50 Kumho Ecsta AST tires. Braking is handled by front disc and rear drum brakes, and suspension components were replaced under previous ownership.
The seats are upholstered in tan cloth with matching door panels, carpets, and trim. The front carpets are protected with black Hurst floor mats. Equipment includes a Hurst shifter, a rear window defogger, a radar detector, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo. Cracks are noted in the dashboard and the air conditioning system has been removed.
A four-spoke steering wheel with a Z28 horn button fronts a 130-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level, voltage, and coolant temperature. An aftermarket oil pressure gauge is also fitted. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the seller, though total mileage is unknown. The speedometer cable and gear were replaced in 2005 and the Carfax report notes mileage discrepancies. An uninstalled Dakota Digital instrument cluster is included in the sale.
The factory 5.0-liter V8 was replaced in 2004 with a Chevrolet Performance ZZ383 V8 crate engine that was factory rated at 425 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is equipped with a Holley carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, an MSD ignition, and die-cast aluminum Chevrolet valve covers. A FAST electronic fuel injection system is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement driveshaft and a Keisler RS500 five-speed manual transmission that was fitted in 2011.
The Carfax report notes the aforementioned accidents and mileage discrepancies as well as history in North Carolina and Tennessee starting from the first entry in 1989.
