This 1970 Chevrolet Nova coupe was purchased by its current owner in 2016 and has since undergone a custom build featuring the installation of a 6.0-liter LQ4 V8, a Borg Warner S476 turbocharger, a four-speed overdrive-equipped automatic transmission, and a Currie Ford 9″ rear end. Additional modifications include an exterior color change, programmable Holley fuel injection, updated suspension and brake components, tubbed rear wheel wells, Weld Racing wheels, a roll cage, updates to the interior, and more as described below. Driven approximately 1k miles since completion of the build, this modified Nova is now offered with a pair of uninstalled front seats and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
Delivered from the factory in Desert Sand (63) with a white (10) roof, the body was refinished in its current shade of light blue during prior ownership according to the seller. The rear quarter panels were stretched following the seller’s acquisition and Detroit Speed-sourced mini tubs were fitted, and additional features include Nova SS-style hood vents, dual mirrors, and LED tail lights. The seller notes the windshield wipers have been removed, and close-up photos in the gallery below depict the paint and chrome trim.
Weld Racing wheels fitted with COPO-style hub caps wear 15″ M&H Racemaster tires up front, and 315/60R15 Mickey Thompson ET Street radial tires are fitted within the tubbed rear end. Suspension modifications include Global West tubular front control arms with QA1 double-adjustable coilovers, while the rear suspension is equipped with Caltrac split mono leaf springs on sliders, Caltrac adjustable shocks, and Caltrac traction bars.
The interior features front Bride bucket seats clad in black upholstery and equipped with Status harnesses. The rear seats have been removed, and additional features include a body-color roll cage, black door panel trim, a TCI Automotive shifter, and an ARC 12-switch flat touch control panel mounted alongside a Holley programmable EFI control screen.
The aftermarket wheel fronts a horizontal 100-mph speedometer along with a fuel gauge and ventilation controls. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, with true mileage unknown. The seller notes that the speedometer, fuel gauge, and horn are inoperative, and sagging is noted on the headliner.
The seller installed a 6.0-Liter LQ4 V8, which is modified with a Borg Warner S476 turbocharger, programmable Holley electronic fuel injection, a Holley Dominator ECU, Mahle forged flat top pistons and piston rings, ported 317 “Cathedral” aluminum cylinder heads, PAC Racing valve springs, ARP studs, SCAT forged I-beam connecting rods, a Texas Speed Stage 2 turbo camshaft, a water-to-air intercooler feeding a custom intake elbow into a Holley intake, and manifolds feeding a custom made 4″ downpipe and single exhaust with an an electronically actuated cutout.
Cooling is from an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans, and other updates include 160 lb/hr fuel injectors, a 22-gallon Radium Engineering fuel cell with integrated dual fuel pumps and a surge tank, a Wilwood brake master cylinder, and the relocation of the battery to the trunk.
Per the seller, the car is currently tuned to run on E85 ethanol fuel. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed 4L80E automatic transmission equipped with a transbrake and an electronically-controlled overdrive, a PTC 9.5” non-locking torque converter, and a Currie Ford 9″ rear end with 3.25:1 gearing and 31-spline axles.
