This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS coupe was produced on May 5, 1970, and initially delivered to Nelson B. Good & Son Chevrolet of Caledonia, Michigan. Finished in red with black stripes over black vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 402ci V8 linked with a replacement four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt PosiTraction rear axle with 3.73:1 gears. Equipment includes a Hurst shifter, power steering and front disc brakes, 15″ Super Sport wheels, a Champion aluminum radiator, a Weiand Stealth intake manifold, a Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, MSD electronic ignition, a Flowmaster dual exhaust system, aluminum cylinder heads, and Hooker tubular exhaust headers. The car was refurbished under prior ownership and acquired by the seller in April 2011. This Chevelle is now offered with an NCRS Shipping Data report, manufacturer’s literature, service manuals, service records, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Forest Green (48) and was repainted in its current shade of red with black stripes under prior ownership. Exterior details include a domed hood, SS badging, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The left-front fender is said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. The wipers do not work.
Super Sport 15″ wheels wear SS center caps and chrome trim rings and are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires measuring 225/60 up front and 245/60 out back. The car is equipped with power steering, front and rear sway bars, and boxed rear lower control arms. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl and accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard, headliner, headrests, and door panels. Equipment includes a cabin heater, a center console, a Hurst shifter, an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo, and retractable front lap belts. The factory-style radio does not work.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a column-mounted tachometer and a 120-mph speedometer. The horn and factory-style temperature gauge, tachometer, and clock do not work. Aftermarket readouts for coolant temperature and oil pressure have been installed. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 402ci V8 was rebuilt under current ownership and was fitted with a Howards Rattler camshaft, lifters, valve springs, and valve seals as well as Enginetech rod and cam bearings, aluminum BBC cylinder heads, Manley valve spring covers, and Competition Cams machined steel valve locks. Additional details include a Champion aluminum radiator, a Weiand Stealth intake manifold, a Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, MSD electronic ignition, and Hooker tubular exhaust headers.
