This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu coupe was acquired by the seller five years ago out of Iowa and has since been built with a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 crate engine paired with a five-speed TKO 600 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The bodywork has been refinished in Candy Red with Tuxedo Black striping, and other exterior features include staggered Rambler wheels from US Mags along with SS-style badging, trim, hood, grille, and bumpers. The black interior has been modified with bolstered front bucket seats, SS-style Dakota Digital instrumentation, Vintage Air climate control, and a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo. Additional upgrades include a wiring harness from American Autowire, a Detroit Speed quick-ratio steering box, RideTech coilover suspension, and Wilwood disc brakes. This modified Chevelle SS tribute is now offered with receipts, instruction and installation manuals for aftermarket parts, an uninstalled cruise-control module and front speakers, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was refinished in Candy Red Metallic with Tuxedo Black Metallic top stripes. The seller notes that there was damage to the front bodywork, so the fenders and valance were replaced before the car was repainted. The paintwork was completed by May 2017, and the seller also notes that touch-up paint will accompany the car. The exterior is shown in detail in the photo gallery below, including Super Sport badging and SS-style bumpers, grille, and more.
Staggered 18″ x 8″ front and 20″ x 9.5″ rear US Mags Rambler wheels are mounted over a Wilwood big-brake kit with six- and four-piston calipers, adjustable RideTech coilover suspension, and aftermarket upper and lower control arms. Additional modifications include 2″ drop spindles, a Detroit Speed quick-ratio steering box, and larger front and rear sway bars. The seller notes that the brakes are not power-assisted and that piston knock-back has been experienced, which may be addressable with Wilwood piston knock-back springs.
The interior features bolstered bucket seats with black upholstery. The seller states that an upgraded one-piece carpet was installed at Auto Weave Upholstery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado in November 2019 to accommodate the larger transmission tunnel. The car has been rewired with a harness from American Autowire. Features include a Vintage Air Gen IV climate-control system, a Silversport short-throw shifter, a Retrosound stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, Infinity Reference speakers, and an Ididit tilt steering column. The seller notes that the cruise-control module and the front speakers have not yet been installed but will accompany the sale.
A three-spoke steering wheel with an SS center cap sits in front of SS-style Dakota Digital VHX instrumentation with illuminated needles and LCD readouts. The digital odometer shows approximately 2,600 miles, which is said to reflect mileage accumulated since the engine installation. True mileage is unknown, and 6k miles reportedly have been added under current ownership.
The seller states that the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 was installed at the Honest Mechanic in Englewood, Colorado in February 2018. The General Motors crate engine reportedly was factory rated to produce 580 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque, and the seller notes that the engine was serviced in May 2019 after break-in. Additional features include a three-row Frostbite radiator with dual 14″ electric fans in a custom shroud as well as a 20-gallon stainless-steel fuel tank. An in-tank electric pump rated at 100 psi and 400 lph has been utilized alongside a VaporWorx PWM fuel regulator.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed TKO 600 manual transmission that features a Quicktime SFI-approved bellhousing, an upgraded clutch, and a hydraulic throwout bearing. The 12-bolt rear end is said to house a limited-slip differential, and in September 2018 a Yukon 3.31:1 ring gear and pinion set were installed. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.
Folders of receipts, manuals, and other paperwork will accompany the sale.
