This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS coupe was first sold by Fischer Chevrolet of Rockford, Iowa, and it was purchased by its current owner in 2000. The car was subsequently refurbished and modified, which included installation of a 454ci V8 and a five-speed manual transmission, repainting the silver exterior, and retrimming the black interior. Features include a Positraction rear end, Delco AM radio, a Hurst shifter, and power-assisted brakes and steering. This modified X55 Camaro is now offered on dealer consignment in New Jersey with with the removed factory 350ci V8 engine and four-speed transmission, a Protect-O-Plate, an NCRS Shipping Data report, a Camaro Hi-Performance Certificate of Authenticity, refurbishment photos, and transferable New York registration.
Delivered from the factory in Cortez Silver (69), the body was repainted during the refurbishment performed during current ownership. Features include black hockey stick side stripes, a dual exhausts, hood vents, and SS, 396, and ‘ by Berger’ badging. The finish is shown up close in the photo gallery below.
Silver-painted 15″ steel wheels wear bowtie-logo hubcaps and are wrapped in staggered width BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. A 14″ spare fitted with a Goodyear tire is stored in the trunk, and a set of SS-style wheels are included in the sale according to the seller.
The car was ordered with black upholstery (712) covering the front bucket seats and rear bench, and it was retrimmed during current ownership. The car retains a factory Delco AM radio, and further equipment includes a Hurst shifter, woodgrain trim, manually operated windows, and lap belts for the front and rear occupants.
Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, an AutoMeter tachometer, and supplementary gauges mounted ahead of the center console. The five-digit odometer shows over 4,500 miles, with actual mileage unknown.
The 427 V8 has been rebuilt to a displacement of 454 cubic inches and was installed in place of the factory L48 V8. Equipment include an aluminum intake manifold, exhaust headers, polished valve covers, and a matching air intake housing featuring 396 decals. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission with a 12-bolt Positraction rear end. Per the seller, a reproduction cowl tag has been mounted to the firewall and the factory uninstalled plate is viewable in the gallery below.
The removed L48 engine and four-speed manual transmission is shown above and is mounted as a running display. The engine stamping shown within the gallery includes the digits 608699, which match the vehicle’s serial number. Additionally, the HA suffix on the same pad stamping corresponds with the L48 350ci V8 for manual-transmission applications.
