This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible is finished in Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes and Indianapolis 500 pace car decals over an orange vinyl and cloth interior and is powered by a 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a Positraction rear differential. The Z11 option added the RS and SS packages, a custom interior with orange houndstooth upholstery, and a cowl-induction hood as well as front and rear spoilers. Additional equipment includes a power-operated white soft top, 14″ Rally-style wheels, power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, air conditioning, Cruise-Master speed control, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The car is said to have been refurbished during previous ownership and was acquired by the seller in October 2015. This Z11 Camaro convertible is offered in California with a Jerry MacNeish Certificate of Authenticity, four removed 14″ wheels, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
The Z11 package was introduced in early 1969 to outfit a limited run of production convertibles with trim replicating that of the official pace cars built for the 53rd Indianapolis 500. Fewer than 3,700 cars were sold with the option, all finished in Dover White with Z28-style stripes in Hugger Orange. This example is said to have undergone a rotisserie refurbishment including a repaint between 1996 and 1998. Exterior features include a power-operated white soft top, a cowl-induction hood, electric hide-away headlights, front and rear spoilers, and SS and 396 badging.
Rally-style 14″ steel wheels with polished trim rings and center caps are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. Work performed in preparation for the sale reportedly included replacement of the shocks and springs. A set of four removed 14″ wheels with tires are included in the sale.
The cabin features high-back front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in orange vinyl with houndstooth cloth inserts along with color-coordinated door panels and black carpeting. Woodgrain trim adorns the dash as well as the center console, and additional appointments include air conditioning, Cruise-Master speed control, a push-button AM/FM radio, power windows, and a rear window defroster.
The three-spoke rosewood steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column and fronts a clock flanked by a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline. Additional gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are found on the center console. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles, approximately 7k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and sends power to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.07:1 Positraction differential.
