Options include air conditioning, power steering/front brakes, a floor console, bucket seats, and rallye wheels. This car has 113,500 total miles which are documented with good records dating back to new. Outside, the car received a color change from gold to the current Rallye Red years ago. This car was purchased new from Welch Chevrolet in Benito, Texas in January 1969 and is believed to have been kept in Arizona and Texas from new. The seller states that the body is very solid with a few areas of rust in the rear window frame and trunk area as highlighted in the photo gallery below.
Some paint flaws are mentioned and the car is believed to retain its original chrome bumpers which show some age-related stress cracks as highlighted in the gallery. Exterior badging is believed original to the car. The vinyl roof was replaced at some point and is said to be in excellent condition. The dual exhaust is equipped with turbo mufflers.
Optional 15″ rallye wheels are installed at all four corners. They are wrapped in 245/60 series Cooper radial tires with approximately 80% of tread remaining per the seller. Two years ago a new drive shaft, brakes, and brake booster were installed. This Impala utilizes a 12-bolt rear differential and 3:31 open rear-end. As shown in the photo gallery, the spare wheel/tire is present but the factory jack is missing.
Inside, this car was factory-equipped with gold bucket seats which were swapped to the current black upholstery some years ago. Original carpet reportedly still remains and the seller reports that the dashboard is crack-free throughout. All glass is said to be clear and the windows operate smoothly.
Instrumentation, interior/exterior lighting, buzzers/alarms, and features work aside from an inoperable clock and the radio which has been removed but is included with the sale. Two years ago the A/C was converted to R134 with new lines were installed and it is said to blow cold. The odometer shows 113,500 miles which are backed up by records from new according to the seller. The chrome Muncie shifter is said to be original as pictured above.
This Impala retains its numbers-matching L30 396ci V8 engine mated to a 4-speed M-21 Muncie transmission. The seller states that he has inspected the engine, transmission, and differential for originality. The motor reportedly starts easily and runs cool even with the A/C on during hot days.
The engine matches the VIN which shows that the car was built as an original 4-speed car–the cowl tag reportedly matches as well. The engine was rebuilt at 84k miles with a mild camshaft upgrade and head/valve work. As such, this Impala is said to have a nice sound at idle with some cam lope. An included service file details the engine build.
According to the seller, the Muncie 4-speed shifts smoothly. New fuel lines were recently fitted, and the most recent engine service was performed around two years ago. Several undercarriage pictures are included in the photo gallery.
Documentation and records are said to cover this Impala from new, and known history indicates the car has been owned in Texas and Arizona. Some spares will also be included as pictured in the photo gallery, consisting of new exhaust tips, the original radio, a spare tail light lens, and more. The factory Protect-o-Plate is also included.
