This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS coupe is powered by a replacement 396ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in blue over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes an Edelbrock intake manifold, 18″ and 20″ Foose Legend wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a Hurst shifter, a full-length center console, and a Kenwood stereo. The car was acquired by the seller in 2019 and work in 2022 is said to have included the installation of a limited-slip differential and a Holley carburetor as well as the replacement of the lower control arms, battery, engine mounts, oil pan, and driveshaft. This Chevelle SS is now offered with the owner’s manual, partial service records, a car cover, and a clean Missouri title in the seller’s name.
The car was delivered new in Ash Gold (G) and was repainted blue with white stripes under previous ownership. Exterior details include chrome bumpers and trim, hood cowls, dual side mirrors, SS and 396 badges, and dual exhaust outlets. Imperfections in the paint are photographed in the gallery below.
Chrome-finished 18″ and 20″ Foose Legend wheels are mounted with 235/50 front and 275/40 BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 A/S tires that are said to have been installed in March 2022. The car is equipped with power steering and stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with slotted and cross-drilled rotors up front. The lower control arms are said to have been replaced in 2022. Spare Cragar wheels are included in the sale.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl while bright trim accents the dash, door panels, and full-length center console. Appointments include a Hurst shifter, crank windows, a heater, a defroster, and a Kenwood CD stereo.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock surrounded by auxiliary gauges, and a steering column-mounted Bosch 8k-rpm tachometer. Coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage gauges are mounted below the dash. The voltage gauge and horn do not work. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 396ci V8 features a Holley four-barrel carburetor and a black-finished air cleaner assembly that were installed under current ownership in addition to an Edelbrock intake manifold, tubular exhaust headers, and a dual exhaust system. Service in 2022 included replacing the battery, engine mounts, and oil pan, per the seller.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle that is said to have been overhauled with a Yukon Gear Dura Grip limited-slip differential and a bearing kit in March 2022. Additional work at that time reportedly involved replacing the driveshaft.
The owner’s manual, partial service records, a car cover, and a set of Cragar wheels are included in the sale.
