1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 RS

This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 was acquired by the current owner in 2000 and subsequently underwent a refurbishment that included a refinish in black, a replacement vinyl roof, an interior refresh, and the installation of a replacement 350ci V8. Power is transferred via a replacement four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction differential, and equipment includes the Rally Sport package, aftermarket exhaust, power-assisted steering and front disc brakes, 15″ Cragar wheels, a front spoiler, hideaway headlights, an AM/FM radio, an eight-track player, and black vinyl upholstery with houndstooth inserts. This Camaro Z/28 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with spare engine, body, and interior components as well as a spare set of wheels and tires and a rebuilt salvage Wisconsin title in the owner’s name.

The body is said to have been delivered from the factory in green and was refinished in black in 2001, and a replacement black vinyl top was also installed at that time. Exterior equipment includes a front spoiler, 302 and Rally Sport badging, a cowl-induction hood, a driver-side mirror, chrome bumpers with rear rubber-inset bumper guards, and bright trim. The headlight doors and windshield wipers do not function.

Bright-finished 15″ Cragar wheels are mounted with Nexen tires. Power steering was equipped from the factory, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Aftermarket traction bars have been installed in the rear.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in black vinyl with houndstooth inserts. Interior appointments include wood trim, a center console, front and rear lap belts, an AM/FM radio, a stand-alone eight-track player, a Hurst shifter, a rear window defroster, and a heater.

The wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and fronts instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and an aftermarket column-mounted tachometer. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center console. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership.

A replacement 350ci V8 was installed in 2001, and it was fitted with exhaust headers as well as a chrome air filter lid and valve covers. The seller notes that the crankshaft, connecting rods, and intake from the removed engine were used current build.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transmission and an optional Positraction differential. An aftermarket exhaust system has been fitted.

  • 12B – Assembly in the 2nd Week of December
  • ST 68-12437 – 1968 Camaro two-door Sport Coupe
  • Body LOS16778 – Van Nuys, California, assembly plant and sequence number
  • Trim 714 – Black custom bucket seats
  • Paint H2 – Grecian Green, black vinyl roof

A set of 15″ Rallye wheels mounted with Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires is included in the sale along with a spare engine block, cylinder heads, transmission, hood, trunk lid, and interior upholstery.

The Wisconsin title carries a “rebuilt salvage” brand and is pictured in the gallery. It also notes that the previous California title carried a “salvage” brand.
