This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro convertible was acquired by the current owner in 2009 and was subsequently modified with installation of a Shafiroff Race Engines 402ci V8 linked with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a 3.55:1 Positraction rear differential. The engine is fitted with a Holley 4160 carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and MSD ignition components as well as Sanderson headers with electrically operated cutouts. Hotchkis Chassis Max Handlebars, Right Stuff four-wheel disc brakes, and 17″ American Racing wheels have also been added along with a Hurst shifter. The car is finished in red with black stripes and features front and rear spoilers, a power-operated black convertible top, and a luggage rack, while the interior houses Recaro front seats with Schroth harnesses. Work in preparation for the sale involved replacing the radiator, mufflers, and tires. This modified Camaro convertible is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with an additional set of front seats, spare parts, various manuals, service records, and a clean California title.
Finished from the factory in Ash Gold (G2), the car was repainted in red with black stripes in 2010 following bodywork. Features include front and rear spoilers as well as a power-operated black convertible top, a luggage rack, and bright-finished rocker trim, wheel arch moldings, and bumpers.
The 17” American Racing Torq Thrust wheels were mounted with 235/45 front and 255/40 rear Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires in anticipation of the sale. The car is equipped with power steering, and the suspension features Hotchkis Chassis Max Handlebars, an adjustable front cross-brace, and a chassis X-brace as well as heavy-duty sway bars and rear leaf springs. Braking is handled by Right Stuff power-assisted calipers over vented rotors at each corner.
The Recaro front seats are trimmed in black cloth with patterned inserts and accompanied by red Schroth four-point harnesses. The rear bench is upholstered in black vinyl with red inserts, and a matching set of removed front seats are included in the sale. A Hurst shifter exits from the central tunnel, and an aftermarket AM/FM cassette stereo has been added.
The three-spoke Grant steering wheel wears a Chevrolet horn button and fronts a 120-mph speedometer along with a fuel-level gauge and a column-mounted Sun Super Tach tachometer. Auto Gage auxiliary gauges located on the center console indicate oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 442 miles and has rolled over. Approximately 14k miles are said to have been added under current ownership, and true mileage is unknown.
The Shafiroff Race Engines 402ci V8 is topped with a Holley 4160 750-CFM carburetor along with an Edelbrock intake manifold and wears Shafiroff branded valve covers. Additional equipment includes an MSD Digital 6AL ignition, Blaster 2 ignition coil, and ProBillet distributor as well as an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, a Milodon oil pan, a heavy-duty alternator, and a trunk-mounted Optima dry cell battery. The radiator was reportedly replaced in preparation for the sale and wears a SPAL electric puller fan.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO-600 five-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear axle with 3.55:1 gearing and a polished differential cover. The custom exhaust system features Sanderson headers as well as electrically operated cutouts, and replacement mufflers were installed in preparation for the sale.
