This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu sport coupe was acquired by the selling dealer in October 2020 and is powered by a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 paired with a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission and a 3.36:1 Posi-traction differential. Refurbishment work is said to have been completed approximately seven years ago and included a refinish in gray with a matte black vinyl-wrapped hood over a black interior. Equipment includes staggered American Racing wheels, bucket seats, a custom dashboard, smoked glass, and an Alpine Bluetooth stereo with Kenwood speakers. This modified Malibu is now offered in Indiana with a clean Ohio title.
The exterior was refinished in Dodge gray approximately seven years ago and features custom mirrors and door handles as well as replacement chrome trim, weatherstripping, and smoked glass. Custom “LS1” badges are mounted at the rear of the car and on the matte black vinyl-wrapped cowl induction hood. A “Hot Rod Power Tour 2018” decal is affixed at the top of the windshield.
Staggered-width American Racing wheels measure 17″ in diameter up front and 18″ at the rear. They are wrapped in 215/55 and 275/40 Nexen tires respectively. Braking is from power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the brake booster is a replacement. The suspension was reportedly refurbished approximately five years ago with a Hotchkis front sway bar and tubular control arms.
The interior is upholstered in black with replacement vinyl front seats, matching door panels and carpets, and Chevelle-branded floor mats. An Alpine Bluetooth stereo is connected to an amplifier and Kenwood speakers, while a B&M ratchet shifter is mounted in front of the center console. The trunk was Rhino-lined, houses the battery, and features a replacement mat.
The aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel fronts a custom body-color dashboard. AutoMeter gauges include an 8k-rpm tachometer and 160-mph speedometer flanked by auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows less than 4k miles, which is said to represent the distance covered since the completion of the build. True mileage is unknown.
The 5.7-liter LS1 V8 is said to have been sourced from a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro and refurbished with 241 cylinder heads and a 525 camshaft. Components include a Quick Fuel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, MSD ignition, an external oil cooler, a Be Cool aluminum radiator, replacement wiring, and Flowmaster long tube headers and mufflers.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission said to be rebuilt by Janis Transmission of Akron, Ohio, as well as a 3.36:1 Posi-traction differential.
